Risk Developer

Chicago

About Us:

Founded 20 years ago and headquartered in Chicago, the DV Group of financial services firms has grown to more than 600 people operating throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Since spinning out of a large brokerage firm in 2016, DV Trading has rapidly scaled as an independent proprietary trading firm utilizing its own capital, trading strategies, and risk management methodologies to provide liquidity to worldwide financial markets and hedging opportunities to commodity producers and users. Now, DV group affiliates include two broker dealers, a cryptocurrency market making firm, and a bourgeoning investment adviser.

Overview:

We are seeking a full-stack developer to join our risk team. This role supports the design, build, and operation of the in-house risk engine, which powers real-time calculation and monitoring of PnL, VaR, greeks, risk slides, and other key risk metrics.

The ideal candidate combines solid backend and frontend development skills with strong DevOps fundamentals and hands-on experience using AI tooling in day-to-day development. You will work closely with senior risk developers, quantitative analysts, and market risk analysts to turn financial models into reliable, production-ready applications and keep them running smoothly under live trading conditions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain real-time risk systems used daily by risk, traders, and executives, including:
    • 24/5 live PnL tracking
    • VaR and other exposure calculations
    • Web-based risk dashboards
    • Interactive analytical tools
    • Alerting and monitoring systems
  • Own deployment, CI/CD, and infrastructure for risk applications: containerization, pipeline automation, environment management, observability, and incident response.
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and availability, with a focus on low latency and stability during market hours.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate development, testing, documentation, and debugging.
  • Develop and enhance applications that integrate LLM APIs for automation, analysis, and workflow improvements.
  • Build responsive front-end interfaces for visualizing and interacting with risk metrics.
  • Collaborate with the risk team to understand requirements and implement risk models.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and tested code; participate in code reviews and design discussions.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of professional experience as a full-stack developer, preferably in the financial industry or proprietary trading.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data processing, backend logic, and model integration.
  • Solid DevOps experience: Docker, CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins), Linux administration, and monitoring/logging tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana). Experience with Kubernetes or infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic development workflows, and a practical understanding of how to apply them effectively and safely.
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) into applications, including prompt design, tool/function calling, and evaluation.
  • Experience with at least one modern JavaScript framework (React, Angular, or Vue).
  • Proficiency in SQL and a solid understanding of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL stores (e.g. Redis).
  • Understanding of data structures, APIs, and real-time data processing.
  • Familiarity with real-time data visualization.
  • Exposure to quantitative models or working with quants is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Benefits:

  • Discretionary bonus eligibility
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA, FSA, and Dependent Care Options
  • Employer Paid Group Term Life and AD&D insurance
  • Voluntary LTD, Life & AD&D insurance
  • Flexible Vacation policy
  • Retirement plan with employer match
