Who We're Looking For:
The Lead Engineering Manager – Belgrade will lead the growth and impact of our Belgrade Regional Engineering Office (REO), building it into a world-class hub delivering critical capabilities across our global products and platforms.
This is a dual-hat leadership role:
- Local Site Leadership – Formal head of the Belgrade REO, responsible for culture, operations, talent strategy, and representing the location to global leadership. You’ll partner closely with local Talent and People teams to hire exceptional engineers, create an environment where they can do their best work, and ensure that the Belgrade REO is recognised internally and externally as a centre of excellence.
- Global Product & Platform Leadership – strategic engineering leader within our global organisation, working horizontally with Kick.com and Stake.com engineering leads to deliver high-impact outcomes. Initially, you will directly lead one or more product teams as an Engineering Manager, taking hands-on ownership of delivery while shaping technical direction. As the REO grows, the role will evolve into a manager-of-managers capacity, overseeing multiple EMs and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive technical strategy for globally distributed products/platforms owned by Belgrade teams, ensuring scale, reliability, and world-class performance.
- Lead and grow leaders — Manage Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and senior engineers, mentoring them to become exceptional leaders in their own right.
- Scale the site — Partner with Talent and People teams to recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent across multiple disciplines.
- Foster a unified culture — Build a strong, collaborative, and inclusive culture that reflects our company values and bridges time zones and product lines.
- Align local execution with global priorities — Ensure Belgrade’s engineering output is strategically aligned to product roadmaps and business objectives.
- Represent Belgrade REO at the highest level — Be the voice of the REO in global engineering leadership forums, surfacing achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
- Champion delivery excellence — Embed best practices for SDLC, testing, observability, incident response, and “you build it, you run it” ownership, ensuring global collaboration and high-quality distributed delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in management of multiple engineering teams or managers.
- Proven experience leading high-performing engineering teams delivering large-scale, consumer-facing products or platforms.
- Proficiency in modern software architectures (e.g., microservices, event-driven systems, distributed systems) and development practices (e.g., CI/CD, test automation, observability, “you build it, you run it”).
- Exposure to multiple programming languages (e.g., Go, TypeScript, Kotlin, Swift) and cloud/infrastructure environments (e.g., AWS, k8s).
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and career development skills for both engineers and engineering managers.
- Track record of driving organisational change, scaling engineering teams, and aligning local execution with global priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and functions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex, ambiguous challenges in a fast-paced environment.
It’s a plus if you have:
- Experience in regional or global site leadership for a scaling technology company.
- Proven success in building or scaling engineering hubs that contribute to multiple products or platforms.
- Background in both product engineering and platform/infrastructure engineering environments.
- Experience working in globally distributed, multi-time-zone teams and contributing to “follow-the-sun” delivery models.
- Track record of influencing company-wide technical strategy and engineering culture.
