About the Role:

As a technical Lead you'll partner with the Engineering Manager to own the technical execution, delivery quality, and engineering maturity. The Tech lead will act as the ultimate guardian of engineering craft and the "reviewer of last resort" within their squad boundary. What gives this role its unique edge is the direct path it provides to expand their impact by decomposing complex systems, leveling up the engineers around them and steering a critical product domain to technical excellence. This role serves as an explicit launchpad, by successfully growing the squad’s technical capabilities and direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Owns the squad's engineering maturity, technical execution, and high-quality delivery end-to-end.
  • Drives the decomposition of complex technical requirements, system architecture, and technical design decisions within the squad boundary.
  • Acts as the reviewer of last resort for code and architecture within the squad, ensuring adherence to modern engineering best practices.
  • Mentors and coaches the squad’s individual contributors (ICs) on technical craft, fostering an environment of continuous technical learning. Fosters a continuous growth culture by providing engineers with code-level feedback, mentorship, and delivering performance insights to the individual and the EM.
  • Evaluates and establishes engineering regimes, ensuring high standards for code review, testing, and system predictability in line with chapter guardrails.
  • Executes Strategic objectives: Partners closely with the Engineering Manager (EM) to deliver the squad’s technical execution and ensure delivery aligns with overall strategic objectives.
  • Consults on critical squad health mechanisms, including hiring loops, technical interviews and performance reviews.
  • Escalates and aligns technical strategies by maintaining a dotted-line relationship to Tribe Leaders, Senior EMs, and Principals/Architects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, focusing on scalable system design and development.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks, preferably TypescriptJavaScriptSvelte or other server-side rendering frameworks (React, NextJS, Vue etc).
  • Proficient in Node.js, Rest API, Kubernetes (K8), Design Patterns, Subscriptions (WebSockets, Pub/Sub etc) and related technologies.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts. Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to lead resolution of complex technical challenges and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven track record of shipping production grade systems and navigating complex technical codebases within modern development stack.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage squad level execution, accurately, gauge delivery timelines and unblock technical dependencies.
  • Experienced in breaking down complex, ambiguous product specs into clear, manageable technical tasks and architectural milestones.
  • Experienced in proactively mentoring and levelling up Mid to Senior Engineers through Pair Programming, structured code reviews and technical guidance.
  • Experience with Svelte + SvelteKit or other server-side rendering frameworks (e.g., React + NextJS, Vue + Nuxt, Quasar, etc).
  • Proficiency in JavaScript fundamentals, Storybook, and related technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders.

Desirable experience

  • AI-SDLC: Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tooling as a primary delivery accelerator. Ability to decompose ambiguous technical requirements into prompts, context packages, and governed outputs. Understands where AI output requires human gate-keeping and enforces that bar within the squad.
