Principal Software Engineer, Cloud Platform

Kirkland, WA

Radar Reinvented.

Echodyne offers the world’s first compact solid-state true beam-steering radar for a wide range of industries and applications. Our high-performance radars work in all weather and are designed for autonomous vehicles, uncrewed aircraft & drones, and security of borders, critical infrastructure, and smart cities. The company combines the patented technology of metamaterials with powerful software to create a radar sensor with unprecedented performance at commercial price points. Echodyne offers its radars to companies working in Automotive, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Border Security, Smart Cities, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), and Airspace Management including Urban Air Mobility (UTM).

Echodyne is seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Cloud Platform, to join our fast-growing team.

Who You Are

You are a high-caliber technical leader who specializes in building the cloud-native "connective tissue" for complex radar ecosystems. You thrive at the intersection of distributed systems and real-time data ingestion, turning the massive output of edge radar systems into structured, actionable intelligence. As a technical shepherd, you guide the team to build a mission-critical backend that is "edge-aware"—designed to handle the unique telemetry, scale, and security requirements of a fast-growing fleet of radar assets.

Required Experience

  • Data Ingestion: Expert-level proficiency in AWS cloud-native services specifically tuned for high-throughput device data (e.g., IoT Core, Kinesis, Timestream, Lambda). You have a proven track record of leading the development of backends that "talk" to specialized hardware at the edge.
  • Distributed Systems: Deep experience in leading the design of resilient systems that can handle the bursty, high-frequency telemetry unique to radar systems while maintaining low-latency command-and-control loops.
  • Security & Privacy: Deep understanding of software security, specifically authentication (AuthN) and authorization (AuthZ) for remote devices, and data privacy frameworks to ensure secure transmission and storage of radar data.
  • Technical Leadership: Proven experience as a Tech Lead, moving between high-level system guidance and driving the implementation of complex backend services that support physical assets in the field.
  • Collaboration: A strong understanding of edge constraints. You understand how radar data is serialized and can lead the design of cloud schemas that account for intermittent connectivity and bandwidth limitations.
  • Results-Oriented Delivery: A clear history of driving technical teams to meet commitments and delivering customer-facing products in rapid R&D or aerospace/defense-adjacent environments.

What Sets You Apart

  • The "Edge-Aware" Tech Lead: You don't treat the cloud as an isolated silo; you lead the development of backend services specifically to solve the challenges of remote radar deployment and management.
  • Scalability Visionary: You lead the building of systems that can handle the data load of a single radar unit as easily as a global fleet of thousands, ensuring the platform remains durable and supportable.
  • Security-First Mindset: You ensure that encryption and identity management are baked into the ingestion pipeline, ensuring that every radar unit is a secure endpoint.
  • Startup Agility: You move fast with a strong bias toward action, maintaining sound engineering judgment even when building "0 → 1" systems under tight timelines.

 What You Do

  • Radar Cloud Integration: Act as the technical lead for the cloud resources that ingest, process, and visualize data specifically from our edge radar units.
  • Cloud Innovation: Research and prototype new backend technologies to improve how we manage radar systems, data updates, and real-time telemetry at scale.
  • Secure the Pipeline: Define and lead the implementation of rigorous authentication protocols for device-to-cloud communication, ensuring the platform meets high security and data privacy standards.
  • Partner in Tandem: Work closely with the Principal Engineer (Edge IoT) to define the contracts and protocols that bridge the gap between on-radar logic and cloud-side resources.
  • Technical Mentorship: Partner with the Engineering Manager to mentor the team, elevating engineering standards for design clarity and pragmatic practices across the radar-cloud stack.

Echodyne’s technology is export controlled by the U.S. Government and we must evaluate an applicant’s eligibility to handle export-controlled information or obtain required Government authorizations.  Therefore, we will ask you as part of the application process to identify whether you are a U.S. Citizen or green card holder, or have asylum/refugee status in the U.S.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
