Product Testing Technician

The Product Test Technician is a vital member of the team, with a primary responsibility of designing, developing, and implementing, and leading comprehensive testing strategies to ensure a product meets all performance, safety, and reliability requirements. The right person is an ultra-creative superstar performer with a sense of humility, a hunger to make a positive change, and the ability to work equally as well independently as with a team.

Testing and Validation
- Conduct DVT, validation, and regulatory testing (UL/IEC/CE) on new products and systems with the Edged Infrastructure Engineering team.
- Install and monitor test equipment during product validation and regulatory testing.
- Lead integration of different products (Invertors, Turbocell, Load banks, etc.) to perform system level testing.
- Assist engineering in troubleshooting and diagnose system-level alarms and failures during product validation and regulatory testing.
- Conduct system diagnostics during product validation and regulatory testing to ensure products comply with engineering specifications.
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure lab safety is maintained during DVT, validation, and regulatory testing periods.
- Maintain clear documentation and a shared discipline for keeping clean, timestamped lab notebooks and digital records.
- Reviewing, updating and creating test procedures.
Lab Management
- Responsible for lab systems including pumps, chillers, and compressed air and other tools while maintaining digital records and timestamped lab notebooks.
- Responsible for equipment records and coordinating tool calibration inspections.
- Maintain clear documentation and a shared discipline for keeping clean, timestamped lab notebooks and digital records.
- Act professionally and articulately when explaining testing setups and conducting customer demos for visiting stakeholders.
Education and Experience
- A.S. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent military/trade experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with >600VDC and 3-phase AC power electronics.
- Experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Fusion 360) for viewing assemblies is a plus.
- Current NFPA 70E training.
- Experience with Battery Management Systems (BMS) or Solar Inverter testing is a plus.
- Knowledge of vibration analysis or acoustic testing is a plus.
Specific Skills / Abilities
- Expert level in reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Proficient with DMMs, high-voltage differential probes, current clamps, and power analyzers (e.g., Yokogawa or Hioki).
- Experience using CAN interface tools (PCAN-View, CANalyzer) to verify node health.
- Lead-level knowledge of Lockout/Tagout for multi-source energy systems.
- Experienced in the selection and proper use of Category 2 and Category 4 arc flash protection (PPE).
- A strong "stop work" authority mindset, proactively halting a test if a safety hazard is seen.
- Basic Python or LabVIEW skills for test automation are a plus.
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and flow meters, with the ability to identify cavitation or air-lock issues.
- Expert mechanical aptitude with torque tools, precision measurement (calipers/micrometers), and hardware selection (grade of bolts, fittings, etc.).
- Proficient in plumbing/piping, working with AN fittings, NPT, and flared tubing; ability to perform pressure/leak testing.
- Basic fabrication shop skills (drilling, tapping, light machining) to modify test fixtures on the fly
Working Conditions
- Working in a high power lab environment, wearing PPE as needed.
- Comfortable lifting objects, routing wiring, and working with hands to assemble test fixturing.
- Full time on site – with opportunities for remote work as able.
