JOB OVERVIEW:
The Managing Consultant will be a senior member of EPIC’s Life, Absence & Disability (LAD) practice and is accountable for leading complex client engagements, ensuring exceptional service delivery, and driving strategy across group life, disability, and absence/leave programs. This role serves as the primary client relationship lead for assigned accounts, provides executive-level consulting, and oversees vendor performance and governance. By leveraging data and analytics, the Managing Consultant develops multi-year roadmaps, identifies actionable improvement opportunities, and helps clients implement innovative and compliant program solutions. The Managing Consultant also leads RFP strategy, negotiations, and implementations, mentors junior consultants, and contributes to practice growth through thought leadership and business development support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead large and complex client engagements for group disability, absence management, and life insurance programs, including overall strategy, workplan, and delivery quality.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner and strategic advisor for clients and key vendor partners; provide counsel to HR/Benefits leadership and other stakeholders.
- Plan and facilitate client meetings, including executive readouts; develop clear, persuasive materials and recommendations.• Translate industry trends, benchmarks, emerging solutions, and vendor capabilities into tailored strategies and actionable recommendations for clients.
- Own RFP and implementation strategy end-to-end for insured products and ASO/software services, including market approach, evaluation framework, finalist selection, contracting support, and implementation oversight

- Direct multiple concurrent client initiatives and annual deliverables; establish timelines, assign resources, manage risks, and ensure on-time, high-quality outcomes.
- Oversee development and delivery of LAD communications (e.g., enrollment, leave program changes) to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with client strategy.
- Review and advise on carrier agreements, policy documents, and service terms; partner with internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure documents reflect benefit design and client intent.
- Provide consultative guidance on local, state, and federal legislative and regulatory requirements; help clients operationalize compliance and coordinate with vendors as needed.
- Lead benchmarking, financial, and experience analyses across life, leave, disability, and time away programs; interpret results and present strategic tradeoffs and recommendations.
- Lead resolution of complex/escalated claims and service issues, coordinating across client, vendor, and internal teams to achieve timely outcomes.
- Develop and review client-facing deliverables and practice collateral; contribute to thought leadership, training, and best-practice development within the LAD practice.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of standardized tools (e.g., RFP templates, benchmarking reports, cost models) to improve quality and efficiency.
- Lead practice efforts to maintain and enhance vendor intelligence (capability database, performance insights, and market scans) to support client and growth initiatives.
- Provide leadership and oversight for specialized LAD consulting support, including vendor procurement strategy, paid family and company leave program support, statutory program design/review, and Life with Long Term Care programs
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years’ experience leading large group life, disability, and absence/leave programs gained in a carrier, consulting and/or brokerage environment.
- Demonstrated success serving as the strategic lead for large, complex client relationships and presenting to senior/executive stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state leave and disability regulations and ability to translate requirements into operational guidance.
- Working knowledge of data flow and integrations between carriers/TPAs and client payroll, HRIS, benefit administration, and leave platforms.
- Proven project/program leadership across multiple workstreams, including scoping, resourcing, risk management, and quality control.
- Experience leading RFPs, vendor evaluation and selection, and supporting negotiations and contract considerations.
- Track record of mentoring and developing junior consultants; ability to lead and collaborate across levels and functions.
- Business development mindset with experience supporting growth efforts (e.g., proposal support, client expansion, market perspectives/
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel, Team, and PowerPoint.
- Highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills – ability to communicate technical concepts into everyday language.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational training/business experience (advanced degree and/or industry designations a plus)
- Residence State Life and Health license required or obtained within 90 days of hire
Flexible to work outside of normal working hours. - Travel (as needed)
COMPENSATION:
The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
