JOB OVERVIEW:

The Tax Manager at Galway Holdings LP is responsible for managing and executing key tax compliance, reporting, tax accounting, planning, and advisory activities across multiple tax types and jurisdictions. Reporting to the Head of Tax, this role serves as a critical reviewer and strategic partner, ensuring the quality, completeness, and accuracy of work prepared by external service providers.

This is a highly hands-on role requiring a professional who can balance execution with strategic review. The Tax Manager will serve as an in-house tax advisor to Accounting, Finance, Legal, Treasury, HR, and business stakeholders, providing guidance on the tax implications of transactions, operational initiatives, and business decisions. The role is also responsible for managing non-income tax matters, supporting tax audits and examinations, maintaining tax procedures and controls, and identifying opportunities to improve tax processes and governance.

 

LOCATION: Hybrid work arrangement requiring a minimum of three (3) days per week in the office in Summit, NJ. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

A detailed list of job duties includes (but is not limited to):

• Manage and execute federal, state, local, and indirect tax compliance activities across multiple jurisdictions.
• Review and challenge tax returns, workpapers, calculations, and technical positions prepared by external advisors, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Serve as an in-house tax advisor to business functions, providing practical guidance on the tax implications of transactions, business initiatives, and operational decisions.
• Partner with Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Legal, HR, and other stakeholders to identify tax risks and opportunities associated with business activities.
• Manage non-income tax matters, including federal excise tax, sales and use tax, personal property tax, gross receipts taxes, business licenses, and other indirect tax obligations, as applicable.
• Lead and coordinate tax audits and examinations across multiple jurisdictions, including information gathering, response preparation, advisor coordination, and issue resolution.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve tax processes, controls, and documentation, identifying opportunities for standardization, automation, and efficiency gains.
• Prepare and maintain tax forecasts, analytical models, and reporting dashboards to support compliance, planning, and management decision-making.
• Manage relationships with external tax advisors, ensuring timely, high-quality deliverables.
• Monitor tax law developments, assess business impacts, and recommend necessary changes to processes and reporting.
• Perform technical tax research and document findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Review tax account reconciliations and support quarterly and annual tax provision processes.
• Support tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and integration activities, including due diligence and post-acquisition integration.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING: 

Experience and Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required. CPA preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.
• Experience reviewing work performed by external tax advisors and consulting firms.
• Experience developing and documenting tax processes and controls.
• Strong experience across corporate income tax, partnership taxation, state and local tax, federal excise tax, and sales and use tax.
• Experience with tax provision and tax accounting preferred.
• M&A tax due diligence and integration experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax regulations.
• Experience with Power BI, SharePoint, and other analytical tools preferred.

Required Skills
• Strong technical tax knowledge across multiple tax disciplines.
• Ability to critically review and assess work prepared by external advisors.
• Ability to translate complex tax concepts into practical business guidance for non-tax stakeholders.
• Strong process orientation with experience developing procedures, controls, and documentation.
• Proven ability to identify risks, gaps, and process improvement opportunities.
• Hands-on approach with a willingness to execute detailed work.
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

 

COMPENSATION:

The national average salary for this role is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00 in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Hybrid work arrangement requiring a minimum of three (3) days per week in the office.
• Regular in-person collaboration with Accounting, Finance, Legal, leadership, and external advisors is an essential component of the role.
• The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a highly collaborative environment that balances strategic review responsibilities with hands-on execution.
