Purpose of Position

EdReports is seeking a strategic content leader to shape how we tell our story across digital channels, explain changes to our products, and make our evolving work engaging and relevant. This role connects EdReports’ brand and innovation story to the field—helping translate our strategy and product transformation into clear, consistent narratives that strengthen public trust and reinforce our legitimacy as an independent voice in curriculum quality. 

This role leads planning and execution of content that drives engagement, increases visibility through SEO and AI search optimization, and translates complex ideas into accessible narratives that inform and inspire. The Lead works closely with colleagues in MarComms, Product, and Academics to communicate updates to EdReports’ tools and reports, publish findings from pilots and research, and engage users across our digital platforms.

The ideal candidate is a thoughtful communicator with strong writing skills and a learning mindset. They are comfortable creating content for a variety of audiences and formats—from blog posts and landing pages to FAQs and product updates. While product marketing responsibilities will grow over time, this role will immediately support launches and updates as part of the go-to-market process.

Key Responsibilities & Outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a content strategy that supports organizational goals, drives audience engagement, and increases visibility.
  • Write and edit high-quality content across channels, including web, blog, email, landing pages, and FAQs.
  • Partner closely with Product, UX, and Academic teams to develop clear, engaging content for new product launches, review updates, and milestones that reflect EdReports’ brand values and deepen understanding for diverse PK-12 education audiences.
  • Support the development of thought leadership content and organizational storytelling that highlights EdReports’ learning, impact, and strategic direction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent, user-friendly messaging across EdReports’ tools, reports, and digital experiences.
  • Lead SEO and AI search optimization efforts, including keyword research, metadata strategy, and site audits.
  • Manage EdReports’ email marketing strategy, including content development, list management, and performance tracking via Pardot.
  • Track content performance using analytics and apply insights to refine strategy and improve outcomes.
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects that capture and share lessons from pilots, user research, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned to support the organization's strategic goals, with the expectation that all EdReports employees remain flexible and adaptable to evolving responsibilities.

Outcomes:

First 30 Days

  • Build understanding of EdReports’ mission, strategy, and core audiences.
  • Review current messaging, SEO performance, and analytics dashboards.
  • Meet stakeholders across Brand Office and broader organization.

First 60 Days

  • Develop a refreshed editorial calendar aligned with product roadmap milestones.
  • Draft and launch content for one new product feature or report evolution.
  • Establish baseline metrics for SEO and AI search performance.

First 90 Days

  • Lead a coordinated content push tied to a product launch or field engagement.
  • Facilitate messaging alignment session with MarComms and Product.
  • Report on content KPIs and make strategic recommendations.

First 6 Months

  • Demonstrate ownership of product roadmap-aligned content across key projects.
  • Create clear public-facing explanations of EdReports tools and updates.
  • Support product marketing enablement and help document repeatable practices.

Travel

National travel will occur related to organizational needs and for professional learning, as needed. The amount of travel will be monitored to ensure it is appropriate for both the organization and the Lead, Content Strategy. 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Passion for EdReports’ mission and vision, our core values, and our commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity;
  • 7+ years leading content strategy, strategic communications, and/or product marketing for primarily digital audiences (preferably the PK-12 education field)
  • Demonstrated track record of writing, proofreading, and editing compelling content for a wide variety of audiences;
  • Exceptional planning and project management skills with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Strong understanding of SEO and AI search optimization.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional product teams.
  • High level of proficiency working in tools that aid the content planning and publication process such as content management systems, web analytics platforms, SEO research software.
  • Disciplined, data-informed approach to decision-making and problem-solving. 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (journalism, communications, or marketing preferred)

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with user-centered design and digital product development.
  • Experience translating technical concepts for non-expert audiences.
  • Experience contributing to brand storytelling or thought leadership content that supports organizational reputation and trust.
  • High level of familiarity with the Associated Press style guide.
  • Background in journalism, communications, product marketing, or education policy.

Salary

The salary for this position is $99,443 - $134,540 annually. At EdReports, we determine final salaries based on the role's requirements and the candidate's experience and skills, while maintaining equity within our compensation bands. To support fairness and provide opportunities for growth, we typically offer salaries at or below the midpoint of the range. All salary offers are non-negotiable to ensure consistency and equity across the organization.

Physical Requirements

Work is normally performed in a remote office environment including, but not limited to standing and sitting for long periods of time; and fine-finger and hand manipulation to operate a computer and keyboard. Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing electronic information, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. This person will travel by car, air, or other transportation (as indicated in the Travel section) and should be able to physically withstand the demands of such travel. Employee may be required to walk for long distances at retreat venues or other relevant sites.
