Position Summary

As a DevOps Architect at Effectual, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and optimizing our DevOps practices. You will architect and secure Kubernetes clusters and its ecosystem. You will understand both DevOps and security principles to integrate them. You will report to the Application Modernization Professional Services Director.

A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a DevOps Architect

You might start your day by analyzing information from an Effectual customer and drafting a solution to help them achieve their goals. You realize you don't understand a technology the customer is using, so you do your research and diagram out the important parts for future reference. Later, you go hands-on to troubleshoot a CNI add-on and help unblock your teammate. Then you join a meeting with Sales to answer questions from a potential customer and check out some updates from CNCF. You notice an upcoming change that could affect Effectual's standard solution patterns and share it with your peers in architecture for discussion. Before logging off, you briefly update you Jira tasks with today's accomplishments and take a quick look at tomorrow's work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architecture and Design
    • Develop and maintain DevOps architectural best practices
    • Develop and maintain architectural standards and it's components across diverse infrastructures
    • Configure and improve Kubernetes add-ons to extend platform capabilities and securely integrate with external systems.
    • Design and implement secure, automated, and scalable CI/CD pipelines.
    • Security Integration
    • Enforce RBAC, network policies and other guardrails for cluster security in a multi-tenant environment
    • Lead the integration of security practices into the DevOps process, including code scanning, vulnerability assessments, and security testing

    • Collaborate with security teams to implement and enforce security controls throughout the development lifecycle
  • Toolchain Management
    • Evaluate, select, and implement DevSecOps tools and technologies that align with organizational goals
    • Improve existing toolchains for improved efficiency and security
    • Automation and Orchestration
    • Implement automation scripts and tools for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment
    • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) templates for cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Monitor and Performance Optimization
    • Establish monitoring and alerting systems for both security and performance metrics.
    • Increase infrastructure and applications for improved efficiency and reliability.
    • Collaboration and Training
    • Work with development, operations, and security teams to foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
    • Provide training and mentorship to team members on DevOps best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years experience in DevOps, security, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipeline design and implementation (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, etc.)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell, PowerShell)
  • In-depth knowledge of containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

 

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience

  • AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional)
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate/Professional
  • Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Consul Connect)
  • Knowledge of GitOps methodologies and tools (ArgoCD, Flux)
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Datadog)
  • Familiarity with policy-as-code tools (Open Policy Agent, Falco)
  • Experience in consulting or professional services environments
  • Background working with enterprise clients and complex compliance requirements
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical teams
  • Experience with incident response and disaster recovery planning
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, FedRAMP)

Salary Range for this position: $140,000-$175,000
