Engineering Manager, Protocol

Eigen Labs is more than just a leading name in the blockchain space. We’re the driving force behind EigenLayer, a game-changing solution that revolutionizes crypto-economic security. Imagine a world where blockchain projects break free from the shackles of the scaling trilemma and capital limitations.

We’re building a platform to deliver security to novel distributed applications. In today's blockchain ecosystem, each service is typically secured by its own tokenized trust-network. With EigenLayer, services can build upon the established security of the Ethereum trust network, unlocking untold scalability while maintaining security and decentralization.

This is a full-time position that is fully remote.

THE ROLE

Our Protocol team is growing, and we’re looking for a skilled Engineering Manager with deep protocol knowledge to lead and expand this critical area. In this role, you’ll oversee core functions such as staking, slashing, and rewards, while also driving the development of EigenPods and other innovative protocol features. You’ll play a high-impact role in advancing Ethereum’s capabilities, enabling increased throughput, security, and decentralized applications across diverse use cases.

This is an exciting opportunity to manage a team of senior engineers and lead the development of cutting-edge solutions that will shape the future of Ethereum scalability. If you have a passion for protocol design, a strong technical background, and enjoy working on high-stakes projects in the Ethereum ecosystem, we’d love to hear from you!

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior engineers through the full employee lifecycle
  • Drive the protocol roadmap to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Oversee the development and refinement of core protocol functionalities, including EigenPods, staking, rewards, and slashing mechanisms.
  • Engage with both technical and executive stakeholders, communicating complex ideas clearly and aligning protocol initiatives with the broader strategic goals of EigenLayer.
  • Represent Eigen Labs at industry events and engage with the developer community to stay at the forefront of protocol developments.
  • Serve as the internal champion for protocol security and reliability, safeguarding billions in crypto assets and expanding the reach of Ethereum’s use cases.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • 5+ years of engineering experience, including hands-on protocol or blockchain development.
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience with a track record of managing and growing teams, particularly senior engineers.
  • Deep knowledge of Solidity and the Ethereum protocol, with hands-on experience in reading, writing, and assessing complex projects.
  • Proven skills in technical project management, with the ability to drive large-scale, impactful projects within the protocol space.
  • Strong technical and executive communication skills, with an ability to distill complex information for a range of stakeholders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Background in leading protocol development within top Ethereum projects (e.g., Uniswap, Aave) or other L1/L2 chains (e.g., Filecoin, Sui).
  • Experience in Big Tech combined with a strong passion for blockchain, demonstrated through side projects or hands-on protocol work.
  • Former engineering experience, ideally within blockchain or distributed systems.

The target base salary for this role will range between $200,000 to $300,000. This is determined by a few factors including your skillset, prior relevant experience, quality of interviews and market factors at the point in time of offer. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.

US Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity (tokens and options)
  • Comprehensive insurance (medical/dental/vision)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Stipend for your ideal remote set-up
  • Flexible hours and a supportive remote environment
  • Unlimited vacation: Take time when you need it (and we really mean it!)
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Monthly wellness benefit
  • Yearly off-sites

If hired outside of the US through an EOR, benefits will be offered based on specific country requirements and EOR offerings.

Equal opportunity employment

There's one more, very important thing. We are an equal opportunity employer. We search for amazing people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We take care of each other to create an inclusive work environment where we love to come to work every day. We hope you can join us.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
