About the role

Elemental is seeking an Entrepreneur in Residence: Community Impact Coach. This is a consulting position that could range from 10-20 hours per week depending on the consultant’s availability and the scope of activities. Work will be performed within a dynamic, innovative team environment with support from our organization and the broader ecosystem. We are looking for someone who is deeply knowledgeable about the experience of building a responsible community engagement practice in or for a climate tech company or similar context within corporate, and who can be a diligent partner for our entrepreneurs!

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Mentor and coach climate tech companies in our portfolio to achieve community benefit, workforce, and other impact outcomes prioritized in their investments and project plans
  • Identify successes and lessons learned from coaching engagements that support the Elemental team to develop and design tools, resource guides and processes related to community engagement, community benefit, and workforce plans
  • Design and host interactive calls, workshops, peer learning sessions as needed for portfolio companies to grow their knowledge of these key strategies required to deliver project impact
  • Establish relationships for Elemental and our portfolio with place-based partners as needed in support of community engagement, community benefits, and workforce development plans
  • Track and share portfolio progress and insights with the internal team, including creating a set of specific case studies at the close of coaching engagements
  • Guide companies through the development and execution of community-focused events, such as launches, ribbon-cuttings, and open houses
  • Provide as needed support to respond to opportunities and gaps in the market identified by the team, such as research, landscape analysis, summaries, and other activities

About You

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about helping climate tech hardware and software companies scale. You could be a great fit for this role if you have been able to effectively guide the creation and growth of a community outreach and engagement, external affairs, policy, or other similar practice/team within or with startups or corporate environments. Additionally, you’ll bring expertise helping companies implement climate technology projects in partnership with local communities, workforce development organizations, and other partners.

Desired skills:

  • Proven track record developing policy, community engagement, and other similar strategies, processes, and procedures within a U.S. startup environment 
  • Ability to engage network to support Elemental portfolio companies and broader ecosystem
  • Excellent project management and communication competencies  
  • Flexible, creative, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to build interpersonal relationships
  • Experience or passion for consulting, coaching, and/or teaching 
  • Excellent written and oral communication and stakeholder management skills

Standout skills:

  • Worked in climate and sustainability
  • Eagerness to share connections and network, past experiences, guidance and other assets that benefit company leaders’ and project team’s success
  • Experience coaching or providing consulting services
  • Experience building and managing a community engagement, project management, policy or other similar team within a startup or corporate
  • Experience building partnerships with nonprofits and/or community-based organizations
  • Relationships with lobbyists, public affairs, partnership, community and other consultants 

 Compensation and Location:

  • Elemental offers an hourly rate of $150 per hour, which is based on market data and the organization’s compensation philosophy.
  • This position will be remote and candidates can be based anywhere in the United States.
  • Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
