Software Development Intern

As a Software Development Intern, you’ll focus on streamlining the workflow between the commercial and software operations departments by automating manual tasks to support Elements rapidly increasing commercial scale.
We are looking for individuals who are curious, love to learn and want to make an impact on some cutting-edge projects for our Summer 2025 Internships. Our program has multiple elements (no pun intended) to ensure that you have a well-rounded summer to help identify your strengths and work on areas of development, to an Executive Series where you get to meet our Leadership team and ask them questions about their careers, about the products or anything else which interests you. And, finally, you get to work on a project which will actually be rolled into the product roadmap.
This role will report to the Sr Staff Engineer, Product Owner and will be a San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product and commercial teams to understand software requirements and implement the software
- Design and implement automated integration points, including instrument assignment, permissions management, and account setup between commercial and product software, including unit and integration tests to validate functionality, performance, and reliability of software.
- Automate manual tasks to reduce time-consuming and repetitive work saving > 15 FTE hours/week and enabling a greater commercial scale-up
- Enhance data synchronization and communication between commercial and software operations APIs, focusing on reliability and scaling up
- Design and implement integration tests
- Implement UI for commercial staff to interact with internal software APIs
- Develop work instructions for customer support to troubleshoots integration points
- Provide training resources, diagrams, and software documentation for process adoption
- Participate in Agile/Scrum activities, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospective meetings

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Programming, CS, Bio engineering or related field
- Good working knowledge of programming languages and frameworks (Go (preferred), Python, Typescript, React) and passion for software development and automation
- Hands on experience writing gRPC (preferred) or REST APIs
- Exposure to databases, Mongo, Postgres or similar
- Understanding of cloud service development (AWS preferred)
- Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Base Compensation Pay Range:
- $25 - 40/hr
