Clinical Enablement Manager - Doctor & Dental Assistant Programs

Chicago, Illinois, United States

The Clinical Enablement Manager is the field engine that turns clinical programs into daily habits for doctors and dental assistants. This role delivers training, coaches chairside, and integrates new protocols, technologies, and service lines into office workflows across the network.

The Clinical Enablement Manager partners with the Senior Director of Learning and Development, Regional Dental Directors, regional Directors of Operations, Practice Managers, L&D, HR, Talent Acquisition, and Clinical Operations. Doctors and assistants are trained as a team, because case acceptance, efficiency, and patient experience depend on how the doctor-assistant pair works together.

Success is measured by sustained skill adoption, provider performance lift, faster time-to-competency for new team members, and consistent care across all practices — not by training volume.

Essential Job Responsibilities

1. Doctor Enablement & Skill Adoption

  • Deliver in-office and virtual training on dentrix ascend pms, clinical protocols, treatment planning, and case presentation
  • Coach doctors chairside on new procedures, technology, and service lines
  • Reinforce adoption through huddles, peer learning, study clubs, and follow-up coaching
  • Partner with Regional Dental Directors to drive behavior change and reduce variability in care

2. Dental Assistant Enablement & Skill Adoption

  • Train assistants on chairside protocols, four-handed dentistry, sterilization and infection control, and room turnover
  • Build assistant competency in technology (intraoral scanners, imaging, digital workflows) and new service lines
  • Train assistants to support case acceptance: patient education, clinical notes, and scheduling handoffs
  • Deliver expanded-function (EFDA) and career-pathway training where state regulations allow

3. Implementation of Clinical Initiatives

  • Execute rollouts of new clinical programs as directed by leadership (e.g., clear aligners, implants, scanners, AI tools)
  • Ensure each office rollout includes:
    • Training
    • Workflow integration
    • Performance tracking
  • Run pre-launch readiness checks and post-launch audits at 30, 60, and 90 days
  • Document lessons learned and refine the rollout playbook between waves

4. Provider & Team Performance Support

  • Use clinical analytics to identify skill gaps by doctor, assistant, and office
  • Deliver targeted upskilling and remediation plans based on data
  • Support onboarding and ramp-up of new doctors and assistants
  • Track clinician KPIs and flag development or rehabilitation opportunities to leadership

5. Onboarding, Recruiting & Retention Support

  • Deliver standardized clinical onboarding for new doctors and assistants
  • Support Talent Acquisition at recruiting events, school visits, and working interviews
  • Contribute to mentor programs and career pathways that retain high performers

6. Learning Delivery & Innovation

  • Use modern methods: microlearning, simulation, scenario-based training, and LMS modules
  • Gather feedback and evolve delivery to increase engagement and retention
  • Create and Maintain training materials aligned with evidence-based standards and organizational protocols

7. Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Track adoption, competency, and performance lift for every program delivered
  • Report results to the Director and field leaders on a set cadence
  • Use data to refine training content and implementation approaches

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with:

  • Clinical Operations and Compliance — protocols, quality standards, clinical workflows
  • HR / L&D — onboarding, curriculum, leadership development
  • Talent Acquisition — recruiting event support
  • Operations — workflow integration, scheduling
  • Finance — ROI validation
  • Technology — tool adoption

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent clinical and training experience considered
  • Active or prior dental credential: RDA, EFDA, or RDH (state-dependent)
  • 3–5+ years of experience in:
    • Clinical dentistry (chairside assisting, hygiene, or general dentistry)
    • Clinical training, education, or coaching
    • Multi-site healthcare or DSO environment

Required Experience

  • Proven success delivering clinical training that changed behavior — not just completion
  • Experience implementing new clinical technologies or service lines (e.g., scanners, aligners, implants)
  • Working knowledge of clinical KPIs: case acceptance, production per provider, treatment mix, re-treatment
  • Experience coaching both doctors and clinical support teams
  • Proficiency with practice management software and an LMS

Core Competencies

  • Clinical credibility and influence with doctors and assistants
  • Coaching and performance development
  • Change management and adoption expertise
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Organized, self-directed field execution
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 40% to supported practices, including overnight stays
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during training sessions
  • Ability to observe and assess clinical procedures in operatory environments
  • Occasional lifting of training materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs)

Success Profile

A successful candidate in this role will:

  • Translate education into measurable clinical and financial outcomes
  • Make great dentistry repeatable by strengthening the doctor-assistant team, not just the individual
  • Build trust in the operatory and earn credibility with doctors and assistants alike
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement, support, curiosity, and clinical excellence
