Job Description:
The Database Administrator 2 independently manages database environments of moderate complexity and plays a key role in improving performance, reliability, and data integrity. This role expands ownership, technical depth, and accountability for database operations.
Work Arrangement: Remote
This role requires the individual to be based in UK Time Zone (GMT/BST).
What You’ll Do:
- Own administration and support of assigned database platforms and environments.
- Analyze execution plans, query store, and wait statistics to troubleshoot slow-running queries.
- Support high availability and disaster recovery configurations, including Geo-Replication, Failover Groups, and Point-in-Time Restore.
- Support existing PowerShell scripts and Azure Runbooks for operational tasks such as index and statistics maintenance.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex database performance and availability issues.
- Implement performance tuning, indexing, and optimization strategies.
- Support database design reviews and collaborate with Engineering teams on schema changes.
- Implement and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and backup solutions
- Automate routine database operations and monitoring where possible
- Contribute to database standards, documentation, and operational best practices
- Communicate database risks, trends, and recommendations to stakeholders
- Ability to participate in on-call or incident response rotations as required
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and company objectives.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in database administration or related roles.
- Strong proficiency with SQL Server and hands-on understanding of T-SQL and database concepts.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL on Azure VMs.
- Experience with database monitoring tools and concepts like Execution Plans and Query Store.
- Solid understanding of database security, access controls, and compliance requirements
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel up <10% as business needs require.
- Role requires the following physical capacity: Sedentary: primarily desk/computer work.
