As our Senior Actuarial Analyst you’ll combine analytical skillset and programming skills to drive the development of analytics tools that provide financial insights and strategic problem solving for internal and external clients. You’ll be part of the team that develops pivotal financial models that explain anomalies in historical spend, predict future trends, estimates the financial impact of formulary and benefit strategies, and provides analytic support for new and existing products that drive value.   We’ll need you to find efficiencies in our systems by leveraging data science techniques. You’ll also work with pharmacy and medical data to ensure transparent and flexible value propositions and solutions.

The fundamentals for the job…

  • Optimize ongoing short, mid, and long-range forecasts of trends, revenue, and expenses for Abarca and clients.
  • Lead benchmarking projects for key clients.
  • Develop actuarial work products that inform business decision making such as: financial impact modeling for changes in risk, utilization management, and trend as well as forecast trend using typical market indicators and Abarca innovative solutions.
  • Create models that showcase Abarca’s value proposition.
  • Assist in modeling the impact of new regulations and quality measures (i.e. STARs)
  • Develop other financial models for critical priorities as needed.
  • Support development of analytic tools to empower the underwriting team, drug trend development, and other internal and external clients.

What you’re made of

The bold requirements…

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Economics, Finance, or a related field (or 2+ years equivalent experience in health insurance or PBM setting)
  • 6+ years healthcare actuarial experience or equivalent healthcare analytics role utilizing claims data.
  • Experience using statistical programming languages.  Examples include SAS, VBA, SQL, Python, and R.
  • Experience applying project management skills in data-related and financial analysis projects.
  • Experience driving and taking ownership of creating cost savings and ROI models.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • We are proud to offer a flexible hybrid work model which will require certain on-site work days (Puerto Rico Location Only)
  • This position requires availability to work in a specified time zone or working schedule, accommodating the business needs of our clients and team members.
  • This position may require availability for on-call hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to promptly address emergent issues or provide necessary support as dictated by operational demands (if applicable). 

Nice to have…

  • Fellow or Associate in the Society of Actuaries (FSA or ASA)
  • Experience with Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid revenue methodologies, APMs and Value-Based Care contracts.
  • Experience with Medicare Advantage and Part D bidding trend, forecasting analytics and creating value proposition models.

Physical requirements…

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
