Manager, Sales Engineering

Remote US

At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most.

As a Manager of Sales Engineering, you’ll combine your People Come First leadership, technical depth, and communication skills to help enterprise merchant partners evaluate and integrate Affirm. You will lead and develop a team of Sales Engineers while actively participating in deals, guiding integration decisions, and building relationships with merchants’ technical and business leaders.

You’ll develop a deep working knowledge of Affirm’s products and integration solutions, participate in and lead technical sales calls, and provide hands-on support when the team needs coverage or additional technical leadership. You’ll also strengthen the team’s ability to build, test, and troubleshoot integrations in sandbox environments, grounding merchant recommendations in practical experience.

Sales Engineers are part of the Partner Engineering team and work closely with Affirm’s Revenue, Engineering, and Product teams. Together, you’ll solve merchant integration challenges, identify product enhancements, and build internal processes that scale.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Sales Engineers, setting clear expectations for technical proficiency, merchant engagement, and performance.

  • Actively participate in deals alongside your team, supporting live technical discovery, integration discussions, and solution presentations.

  • Partner with merchant technical and business leaders when an opportunity requires leadership involvement.

  • Develop and maintain deep working knowledge of Affirm’s products, APIs, and integration options so you can evaluate solutions, explain tradeoffs, and help resolve technical blockers.

  • Build, test, and troubleshoot integrations in sandbox or simulated merchant environments, and coach the team to develop the same practical capabilities.

  • Use AI development tools in your own technical work and coach the team to apply them effectively when building prototypes, developing integrations, and testing solutions, with accountability for the quality and correctness of the resulting code.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Revenue to design effective merchant solutions, address integration gaps, and win new business.

  • Translate merchant requirements and recurring technical challenges into actionable product feedback and improvements to internal processes.

  • Create a respectful, supportive environment where diverse perspectives contribute to better decisions and team members receive clear feedback and opportunities to grow.

What we look for

  • Passion and drive to change consumer banking for the better.

  • BA/BS degree in business or technology.

  • 4–6+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or a comparable customer-facing technical role, and 3–4 years of people management experience.

  • A track record of developing technical talent, setting clear expectations, and holding teams accountable for results.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to stay hands-on while managing a team, including personally leading technical customer conversations and helping advance deals.

  • Practical experience building, testing, and troubleshooting API-based integrations, with proficiency in at least one programming language.

  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to translate business requirements into integration recommendations, explain tradeoffs, and identify implementation risks.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build credibility with developers, business stakeholders, and senior leaders.
