Product Counsel

As Product Counsel, you will own privacy, data governance, and responsible AI legal strategy across the full lifecycle of our humanoid robotics systems from training data ingestion to real-world deployment feedback loops. You will work closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Safety, Data Security, IT, Product, and GTM teams to embed privacy-by-design principles directly into our hardware, firmware, edge computing systems, and cloud architecture. This is a highly cross-functional, high-impact role for someone excited about solving novel privacy challenges raised by the real-world deployment of bleeding-edge autonomous robotic systems deployed in human spaces

Responsibilities:

Privacy-by-Design & Product Counseling

  • Advise on privacy and data security implications of robot sensor systems (vision, audio, depth sensing, spatial mapping, biometrics, telemetry).
  • Partner with engineering teams to implement privacy-by-design and data minimization strategies both on--prem and in the cloud.
  • Conduct and oversee DPIAs, OSS process, and AI risk assessments for new product features and deployments.
  • Guide de-identification, anonymization, and synthetic data strategies.

AI & Data Governance

  • Advise on training data sourcing, licensing, and usage restrictions.
  • Develop governance frameworks for model retraining, human-in-the-loop systems, and continuous learning architectures.
  • Counsel on automated decision-making and profiling considerations.
  • Create internal responsible AI policies and review processes.

Global Privacy and Cybersecurity Compliance

  • Lead compliance strategy under global privacy regimes (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other emerging regulations such as the EU AI, Data, and Data Governance Acts and the NIS2 Directive).
  • Support international product launches with localized data handling frameworks.
  • Advise on cross-border data transfers and data localization risks.

Deployment & Workplace Privacy

  • Counsel on robotics deployment in workplaces and public-facing environments.
  • Assess risks related to employee monitoring, bystander data capture, and surveillance laws.
    Draft and negotiate privacy and data protection provisions in enterprise agreements and pilot contracts.

Security & Incident Response

  • Partner with Security to develop defensible security and breach response frameworks.
  • Support regulatory notifications and communications in the event of data incidents.
  • Advise on vulnerability disclosure programs and coordinated response processes.

Commercial & Vendor Support

  • Negotiate DPAs, data processing addenda, and vendor agreements.
  • Assess third-party tools, cloud infrastructure providers, and data processors.
  • Develop scalable privacy terms for customers and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active and in good standing bar membership in at least one U.S. state or equivalent foreign jurisdiction, with the ability to obtain authorization to practice where required.
  • 6–10+ years of post-qualification legal experience as a practicing attorney, including law firm, in-house, and/or government experience.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on technology, internet, media, or AI-powered products and services delivered at a customer site.
  • Strong product counseling experience, including support for advanced product teams and 0→1 product launches.
  • Experience with AI transactions, including licensing, joint development, and strategic partnerships.
  • Familiarity with advertising, privacy, data protection, consumer protection, competition, and intellectual property laws and regulations.
  • Proven business judgment and ability to provide solution-oriented legal advice that facilitates business objectives.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize competing demands, and create structure in fast-moving environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including influencing executive-level partners.
  • Commitment to team success, with a collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues as needed.
  • High tolerance for pressure, strong crisis-management capabilities, and comfort working under tight deadlines.

This a hybrid position based out of one of our Fremont, CA offices.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Agility Robotics is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions who work in other locations. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Anticipated Base Salary Range

$198,000 - $258,000 USD
