Senior DevOps Engineer
About us:
Amach is an industry-leading technology driven company with headquarters located in Dublin and remote teams in UK and Europe.
Our blended teams of local and nearshore talent are optimised to deliver high quality and collaborative solutions.
Founded in 2013, Amach was created to solve a specific problem in aviation: too much complexity, too little usable intelligence. We help airlines modernise their operating model using cloud, data and Al-delivered by teams with deep aviation domain expertise.
Our goal is to maximize airlines' operational efficiency by optimizing resource use, reduce costs and increase customer experience and satisfaction.
We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to be embedded with our customer, working closely with engineering and technology teams to design, implement and maintain scalable, secure and reliable cloud infrastructure.
This is a highly hands-on role. You will be expected to bring strong technical depth across AWS, Terraform, containerisation and CI/CD, while taking ownership of infrastructure challenges and driving automation and continuous improvement.
The customer operates within a large and complex enterprise environment, so the ability to navigate ambiguity, work across teams and understand processes that may not always be clearly defined is particularly important. You will need to be comfortable troubleshooting problems, finding the right people and information, and taking ownership through to resolution.
The role requires 3 days per month on-site at the customer's West London office.
Key responsibilities & duties include:
- Design, build and maintain scalable, secure and highly available AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code best practices.
- Work hands-on across AWS services, with particular focus on AWS networking, IAM, security, connectivity and infrastructure troubleshooting.
- Design, manage and troubleshoot containerised workloads using Docker and Amazon ECS/Fargate.
- Build, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions workflows to support reliable and efficient software delivery.
- Develop infrastructure automation and reusable Terraform modules to reduce manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, networking, deployment and production issues, identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions.
- Drive improvements across monitoring, logging, observability, reliability and operational processes.
- Support cloud security, compliance and cost optimisation initiatives.
- Work closely with engineering teams and customer stakeholders to improve infrastructure, deployment and operational practices.
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to other engineers and operational teams.
- Contribute to capacity planning, scalability, resilience and disaster recovery initiatives.
- Navigate complex enterprise environments, working across teams and systems where processes, ownership and technical information may not always be clearly defined.
- Take ownership of technical problems from investigation through to resolution, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
Required Experience:
- 8+ years' experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or a similar hands-on technical role.
- Strong, demonstrable hands-on experience with AWS in production environments.
- Deep knowledge of AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, connectivity and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience of AWS IAM and cloud security principles.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong experience with Docker and Amazon ECS/ECS Fargate.
- Strong GitHub experience, including GitHub Actions, workflows and CI/CD pipeline development.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex cloud and infrastructure issues independently.
- Experience designing and operating highly available, scalable and resilient cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles, automation and CI/CD practices.
- Ability to work effectively in complex, large-scale enterprise environments and navigate ambiguity where processes and ownership may not always be straightforward.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively as an embedded member of a customer's technical organisation.
- A genuinely hands-on approach, with the ability to demonstrate technical depth rather than purely architectural or managerial experience.
Desirable skills:
- Experience working with data platforms, data engineering or data pipelines.
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Experience with Dagster or other workflow/orchestration technologies.
- Experience with ETL/ELT technologies and data pipelines.
- Experience with MLflow or similar machine learning platform tooling.
- Experience integrating cloud environments with Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience within aviation, aerospace or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience working across large, complex or highly federated enterprise organisations.
What’s in it for you:
- An opportunity to join a fast-growing company
- Options for career advancement
- Learning and development opportunities
- Flexible working environment
- Competitive salaries based on experience
