Mortgage Analyst II

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Responsible for assisting the Mortgage Originators with deal screening and analysis of commercial real estate mortgage loan opportunities to ensure compliance with the program guidelines relating to the property, underwriting standards and other requirements. Also, the management and servicing of the existing commercial mortgage loan portfolio including the annual financial review and ongoing monitoring of the health of the portfolio, adherence to reporting requirements, and loan servicing requests.
This role will be hybrid out of our West Des Moines, IA location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Loan Origination:
- Analyzes commercial mortgage loan requests through the review of loan packages; financial data including property operating cash flow and rent rolls, determination of quality and functionality of collateral, and sponsor commercial real estate expertise and financial strength.
- Underwrites and recommends to the Mortgage Originators loan structures and terms to comply with the program’s risk/return parameters.
- Gathers and evaluates economic, demographic and other commercial real estate market data.
- Maintains contact with Correspondents, communicates progress of loan request/application and obtains any required information and documentation.
- Prepares pre-screening and approval presentation materials including the transaction’s investment risk and viability, for review by the Mortgage Originators.
- Drafts and reviews commercial mortgage loan applications/term sheets and commitment documentation for the Mortgage Originators.
- Works with the Commercial Mortgage Closing staff and follows the loan through the closing process including the review of third party property reports and other due diligence items, and assists the Mortgage Originators in resolving any closing issues.
Portfolio Management/Surveillance:
- Assists in the portfolio management function for existing commercial mortgage loans and asset management of equity investments, and provides ongoing analysis including the preparation of various recurring and ad hoc reports.
- Participates in the annual financial review of the commercial mortgage loans in the portfolio.
- Supports the quarterly review of loans on the Monitor List and Watchlist, and ongoing monitoring of the portfolio to identify heightened risk.
- Works with the Mortgage Originators to complete credit analysis work for potential problem loans (e.g., discounted payoff, loan modification/restructure, maturity extension, note sale, foreclosure), and implement solutions.
Loan Servicing:
- Works with the Mortgage Originators on commercial mortgage loan servicing issues and requests requiring underwriting input and approval.
- Monitors upcoming commercial mortgage loan maturities and payoffs by interacting with the Commercial Mortgage Servicing team.
Other:
- Travels with Mortgage Originators as necessary.
- Provides assistance on special projects and prepares reports as needed.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or related field of study; plus, a minimum of three (3) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
