ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate for the Vice President, Asset Management position. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This role reports to the EVP, Strategic Sourcing and Asset Management.

The VP, Asset Management is responsible for leading the strategy, performance, and lifecycle optimization of the energy assets at Avantus. This role oversees asset planning, operations, financial performance, compliance, contract management, and risk management across the energy portfolio, ensuring long‑term value creation and alignment with corporate objectives. The successful candidate partners closely with executive leadership, regulatory bodies, engineering, operations, finance, and external stakeholders to maximize asset reliability, profitability, and sustainability. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategic Leadership 

  • Develop and execute long‑term asset management strategies across Avantus’ PV and BESS portfolio .
  • Oversee strategic capital planning, investment prioritization, and portfolio optimization.
  • Provide executive‑level reporting on asset performance, risks, and value creation. 

Asset Performance & Operations 

  • Direct the performance management of all energy assets, including availability, efficiency, reliability, and lifecycle costs.
  • Implement systems, KPIs, and governance frameworks for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant asset operation. 
  • Lead root-cause analysis and reliability‑centered maintenance initiatives. 

Financial, Commercial & Contract Management 

  • Manage P&L for the asset portfolio, including revenue optimization and cost control.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, long‑range planning, and economic modeling.
  • Support commercial activities including PPAs, hedging strategies,  and contract negotiations and management.
  • Represent the company with the evaluation of M&A opportunities, asset acquisitions, and divestitures. 

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FERC, NERC, CPUC, WECC).
  • Lead regulatory filings, audits, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor policy developments, market dynamics, and emerging risks. 

Risk Management 

  • Identify and mitigate operational, financial, regulatory, and environmental risks.
  • Implement asset‑level risk frameworks and reliability standards.
  • Oversee emergency response and resilience planning. 

Leadership & Team Management 

  • Build and lead high‑performing multi‑disciplinary teams focused on asset operations, commercial contract management and compliance.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop talent, succession plans, and organizational capability.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. 
  • MBA or advanced technical degree strongly preferred. 
  • 12–20+ years of progressive leadership experience in renewable energy, utilities, or asset‑intensive industries. 
  • Proven track record managing complex energy asset portfolios or large‑scale infrastructure projects. 
  • Strong background in financial modeling, asset optimization, regulatory environments, and operational performance. 
  • Executive‑level communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Deep knowledge of energy markets, technologies, and regulatory frameworks. 
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and commercial capabilities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in fast-changing environments.

The base salary range for this full-time position is listed below (plus bonus and benefits). Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in California. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus and benefits.

Pay Range

$236,955 - $259,000 USD
