Product Designer

Betterment HQ - New York City

About the role

Betterment’s mission is to empower people to do what’s best for their money so that they can live better. We’re looking for a Product Designer to join the Betterment Advisor Solutions team, a platform that helps independent registered investment advisors grow and manage their clients’ wealth. You’ll help lead AI-powered experiences in the advisor app and design the core workflows firms rely on every day to run their book of business: billing, understanding how their clients are doing, and keeping their practice running smoothly at scale. You’ll bring creative, analytical, and systems-thinking skills to complex, high-impact problems, partnering closely with product and engineering and collaborating across business lines.

At Betterment, we hire designers who are passionate about personal finance, and building intuitive, delightful experiences for customers to manage their money. You approach problems holistically, and are self-motivated, learning new skills quickly, with a sense for what you’ll develop next. We seek out folks who are talented and eager to both learn from their colleagues and help make them better. As a design team, we're focused and always strive for excellence.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.

  • New York City: $120,000-$140,000

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.

A day in the life

  • Design end-to-end experiences in the advisor and client dashboards, from core firm workflows to new AI-powered features—owning all aspects of design for your projects from inception through launch
  • Help define how AI integrates into advisors’ day-to-day practices, designing experiences that feel transparent and trustworthy, and keep advisors in control
  • Work in a fast, iterative, AI-native environment, using interactive prototypes to test ideas early, align with partners, and accelerate implementation
  • Make informed, data-backed design decisions by leveraging research, sales data, customer insights, usability principles, and site performance metrics
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, design, and stakeholders across business lines to shape product direction, identify new opportunities, and stay ahead of industry and competitor trends
  • Contribute to our accessible design system and invest in your craft on a supportive team that values open feedback, and works toward a unified customer experience across all touchpoints

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years of relevant experience as a product designer (previous titles may have been different)
  • Portfolio of extraordinary product design work that demonstrates a strong visual design foundation, positive business impact and experience shipping designs to real people, across web and mobile
  • Experience with and curiosity about AI tools in your design process, and a desire to help the team develop shared practices as the space evolves
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Strong collaborative skills with experience working through cross-functional feedback
  • Ability to identify user needs and pain points through research, usability testing, and data analysis
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with tight timelines
  • Strategic thinker with a big-picture view of how design drives product and business goals
  • Experience working within established accessible design systems and evolving when appropriate
