What You Will Be Doing

ChargePoint cloud software solutions manage 100s of thousands of EV charging HW ports that are a combination of ChargePoint and 3rd party hardware.  All the telemetry from these managed hardware devices contributes to a massive data lake. ChargePoint applies AI, ML and analytics to this dataset to enhance the cloud software end-user experience, charging experience for drivers, optimize network operations.  There are range of new exciting usecases and problems we can solve with this data and advanced application of AI. The leader in this role will lead a team of data, software engineers, data scientists to drive new SW innovation applying AI/ML to enhance differentiation and solve end user/customer problems, advance the state of art in management of EV charging infrastructure.

What You Will Bring to ChargePoint

  • Define and Execute AI & Data Strategy: Work with product managers & business stakeholders to define a long-term vision for differentiation with Data by applying AI and ML. Translate this vision into an execution on plan, deliver products, features, functions to support customer use cases, business outcomes.

  • Lead, Expand and Mentor AI, Analytics Team: You will strengthen a team of approximately 25 engineers by hiring top talent. Oversee the AI & Data Engineering functions across 3 time zones that serve as the backbone of ChargePoint’s data assets. You will guide and mentor the team to execute at a high intensity. Your leadership will inspire the AI team to deliver cutting edge innovation, transforming AI insights into strategic advantage for the company, and pushing the envelope of what's possible.

  • Own AI & Data Engineering Technology Direction: You'll architect, guide a scalable data & AI platform that is the strong foundation for real-time AI based predictive, prescriptive insights, and facilities data-driven optimizations. This part of the role is about building and maintaining the "how"—the infrastructure & applications that powers customer use cases.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, engineering, marketing, and operations functions to align initiatives with company-wide goals, and foster a culture where data, AI innovation plays a key part of company’s Go-To-Market framework.

  • Data Governance: Establish a foundation of trust in our data. Implement best-in-class governance practices working with the company’s cyber security, cloud operations and other stakeholders to ensure data quality, security, and compliance—empowering ChargePoint to move fast without violating customer trust, privacy and government regulations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering management experience building, managing & mentoring large teams
  • 5 years of relevant AI / Data Science experience in algorithm, data analysis, statistical analysis, data modelling & ML experience
    • Good understanding of Python, R, SQL, RDBMS, NoSQL databases and big data solutions, architecture issues
    • Familiarity with basic statistical techniques for prediction and optimization
    • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Architecture for Generative AI
  • Strong presentation skills for internal, external executive audience
  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, MS Power BI, etc.) a plus
  • Strong competency in problem-solving, analysis & project management 
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced, fast-growing, and results-driven environment that demands consistent and enduring excellence. 
    • Ability to identify issues and develop and implement solutions to meet department and company goals. 
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with complex and demanding deadlines.
    • Ability to work with ambiguity and create quick PoCs
  • Self-starter; strong drive, bias-to-action, commitment, and work ethic; willingness to take on big challenges and own the results from brainstorming to execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Able to influence others effectively.

Preferred

  • PhD or Masters in Computer Science/Statistics or related fields.
  • Experience with distributed data processing technologies (Spark, Hadoop, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and data ecosystem in AWS & GCP
  • Designing and implementing real-time pipelines.
  • Experience with prognostics and EV Charger management.

Working knowledge of mathematical and advanced machine learning concepts, including RAG.

ChargePoint is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The targeted US salary range for roles at this operating level is $167,500 to $365,000. This range represents base salary and does not reflect equity, benefits or variable pay where applicable. Actual base salaries are based on several factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications and specific work location.
