Company:  St. Louis Eye Surgery & Laser Center 
Location:  Des Peres, MO

Hours:

  • PRN - You will typically work 1-2 days per week as needed
  • Our office is open Monday-Friday from 5:30am-4:00pm
    • Your shifts will fall within these hours
    • You may have to work a little earlier and/or later as needed


SUMMARY

Serves as support personnel, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), in accordance with established regulations for the practice of Medical Assistant, Federal, State, and accreditation standards and company policies and procedures.  Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.  Identifies and reports to the supervisor inventory/supply needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the delivery of patient care in an effective manner.
  • Performs stocking and maintenance functions.
  • Maintains physical environment of exam and procedure rooms. Cleans and stocks rooms daily and maintains appropriate supply of sample drug medications and supplies as needed.
  • Cleans/disinfects and makes stretchers. Maintains clean/dirty linen.
  • Prepares for transport of contaminated instruments and equipment for sterilization.
  • Files test results, forms and letters into medical records.
  • Teaches patients and families in accordance with the plan of care.
  • Records activities and documents assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re- evaluation of patient status.
  • Assists in Pre-op and Post-op with vital signs.
  • Assists with patient transfers and discharges. 
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.
  • Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY

  • Basic to intermediate computer operation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Proficiency with printer, copier, telephone and fax

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions.

  • The position involves frequent walking, sitting and standing, with regular bending, stooping and reaching
  • Regularly be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Regularly be able to push and pull up to an excess of 200 pounds
  • Regularly be able to pull/lift patients with the assistance of other personnel and or assistive devices, up to an excess of 400-500 pounds
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology
  • Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time

ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS

  • Regular exposure to blood and body substances
  • Exposure to needle sticks possible
  • Blood-borne pathogen risk classification category #1
  • Exposure to substances/chemicals i.e. alcohol, peroxide, bleach

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in well-lit and ventilated surroundings including pre-operative/PACU areas, nurse's stations, procedure rooms, lounge, etc.
  • May regularly be exposed to outside environment
