Senior Tax Accountant - Property Tax

Columbia, MO (Headquarters)

Build the Future with Us — EquipmentShare is Hiring a Senior Tax Accountant - Property Tax

At EquipmentShare, we’re not just filling a role — we’re assembling the best team on the planet to build something that’s never been built before. We’re on a mission to transform an industry that’s been stuck in the past by empowering contractors and communities through innovative technology, real-time support, and a team that truly cares.

We’re hiring a Senior Tax Accountant - Property Tax at our Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MO and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to grow with us, bring energy and drive to their work, and help us build the future of construction.

The Senior Tax Accountant, Property Tax is a senior individual contributor on our property tax team, responsible for the rendition, billing, and audit support work that keeps the business personal property tax of a rapidly growing, multistate equipment rental fleet accurate across thousands of taxing jurisdictions. This role owns the rendition calendar and bill processing cycle, reconciles rendered cost to the fixed asset ledger, uses T3 telematics data to establish lien-date situs for a fleet that moves, and works alongside the Property Tax Manager on assessment appeals and audit defense. It suits a practitioner who wants depth in property tax rather than breadth across tax disciplines — the work is business personal property, real estate, and specialty inventory regimes, not income tax or provision. This position is based in Columbia or St. Louis, Missouri, with remote and hybrid arrangements available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and file the annual business personal property rendition calendar across our multistate footprint, applying correct cost basis, class lives, and depreciation schedules for rental fleet, shop equipment, and branch assets.
  • Establish lien-date situs for a mobile fleet: reconcile T3 telematics location data, rental contracts, and branch assignments so each asset is rendered once, in the correct jurisdiction, with audit-ready documentation.
  • Validate, process, and accrue property tax bills across county, city, and school district collectors; match every bill to a rendition, identify duplicate and phantom assessments, and ensure on-time payment.
  • Reconcile rendered cost to the fixed asset ledger each cycle, identifying ghost assets, inter-branch transfers, disposals, and capitalized soft costs that do not belong in the taxable base.
  • Administer Texas Dealer's Heavy Equipment Inventory (DHEI) compliance, including monthly unit property tax statements and annual declarations.
  • Support assessment review and appeals: prepare evidence packages using utilization, idle time, and obsolescence data, and track protest deadlines, hearings, and outcomes.
  • Prepare and file freeport, interstate commerce, and other available exemptions, and complete abatement and incentive compliance reporting.
  • Support property tax audit defense: assemble records requested by auditors, prepare workpapers and schedules, and help quantify exposure and refund opportunities.
  • Reconcile property tax accrual accounts to the general ledger, prepare account reconciliations and flux explanations, and support the property tax forecast for FP&A.
  • Support new location openings and acquisition integration, including assessor account setup, rendition onboarding, and resolution of assessor and collector notices.
  • Execute assigned internal controls with audit-ready documentation, and assist with information requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Diagnose opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of property tax processes; collaborate with the team to streamline workflows using T3 data and property tax software, implement new systems, and train new team members.
  • Use formulas, pivot tables, and large-volume data analysis to manage asset-level rendition, valuation, and billing data.
  • Perform other related duties or assist with special projects.
