Frontend - Data Platform (Autonomy)

South San Francisco, California, USA

About Zipline

Zipline is the world’s largest and most experienced drone delivery service. We are on a mission to serve all humans equally by ensuring access to food, medicine and essential goods anytime, anywhere. We design, build, and operate the world’s largest autonomous logistics system, delivering critical supplies quickly and reliably. Today, Zipline operates on four continents, makes a delivery somewhere in the world every 30 seconds, and has completed millions of deliveries to date, including blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products.

Our customers include the world’s largest and most prominent healthcare systems, governments, retailers, restaurants and global businesses who rely on us to save lives, reduce emissions, increase economic opportunity, and provide delivery from point A to point B as fast as possible. The drone is only 15% of what we’ve built to enable seamless, reliable, global operations.

Our system strengthens supply chains, reduces congestion, and gives people time back. With more than 140 million commercial autonomous miles safely flown, Zipline is redefining access to healthcare, consumer products, and food across the globe.

We operate at a global scale and are looking for practical problem solvers who thrive on real-world challenges and rapid growth. Our team is motivated by building systems that have a direct, meaningful impact on people’s lives and by scaling the future of logistics. We are seeking people who sculpt from first principles, enjoy facing adversity, and can do the impossible at record breaking speeds.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build data triage, exploration, and visualization interfaces that help users filter, analyze, and investigate millions of records.
  • Develop frontend tools for Zipline’s data pipelines, helping engineering teams perform high-quality analysis and solve critical autonomy problems.
  • Own frontend architecture for data-heavy applications, including component design, state management, rendering performance, testing, and maintainability.
  • Translate complex technical workflows into intuitive, reliable, and performant user experiences for internal engineering and operations teams.
  • Collaborate with backend, data, and autonomy engineers to shape API contracts, data models, and product workflows that support efficient investigation at scale.
  • Improve frontend quality through reusable design patterns, Storybook coverage, Playwright tests, accessibility, performance, and stability work.
  • Mentor engineers and raise the bar for frontend implementation, product thinking, and maintainable UI architecture.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Experience building production-grade frontend applications with complex workflows, rich interactions, and data-heavy user interfaces.
  • Deep expertise in modern frontend development, including TypeScript, React, state management patterns, Storybook, and Playwright.
  • Experience designing performant interfaces for large datasets, including filtering, search, virtualization, caching, progressive loading, and responsive interactions.
  • Proven ability to improve frontend performance and stability in production systems by diagnosing bottlenecks, reducing latency, preventing regressions, and improving reliability.
  • Ability to work directly with internal users or customers, understand their workflows, and deliver software that improves operational efficiency and data-driven decision making.
  • Strong user-centered product judgment, with the ability to turn ambiguous technical requirements into clear, usable, and scalable experiences.
  • Experience collaborating with backend teams on API design, query patterns, realtime updates, and data contracts.
  • Working knowledge of backend systems, databases, or cloud data stores sufficient to reason about frontend performance and data access tradeoffs.
  • Senior-level engineering judgment: you make pragmatic architectural decisions, write maintainable code, and help teams move quickly without sacrificing quality.
