Principal Cyber Security Architect

London, England, United Kingdom

Who we are:

For over 25 years, Global Relay has set the standard in enterprise information archiving with industry-leading cloud archiving, surveillance, eDiscovery, and analytics solutions. We securely capture and preserve the communications data of the world’s most highly regulated firms, giving them greater visibility and control over their information and ensuring compliance with stringent regulations.

Though we offer competitive compensation and benefits and all the other perks one would expect from an established company, we are not your typical technology company. Global Relay is a career-building company. A place for big ideas. New challenges. Groundbreaking innovation. It’s a place where you can genuinely make an impact – and be recognized for it.

We believe great businesses thrive on diversity, inclusion, and the contributions of all employees. To that end, we recruit candidates from different backgrounds and foster a work environment that encourages employees to collaborate and learn from each other, completely free of barriers.

Your Role

As a Principal Cyber Security Architect, you will play a key role in designing and evolving Global Relay’s security architecture to support secure, resilient, and scalable business and technology services. You will partner closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Security teams to ensure security is embedded into the design, implementation, and operation of technology solutions across the organization.

You will serve as a trusted technical advisor, providing architectural guidance for cloud, infrastructure, application, data, and security technology initiatives. Through secure-by-design and secure-by-default principles, you will help reduce risk, improve security maturity, and enable the organization to innovate and scale securely.

Working within the Security Architecture & Technology team, you will contribute to the development of security standards, architecture patterns, and technical controls while helping drive the evolution of Global Relay’s security capabilities and technology roadmap.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of Global Relay's security architecture, ensuring security capabilities are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business objectives and technology strategy.
  • Establish and maintain enterprise security architecture principles, standards, patterns, and reference architectures aligned with industry frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Conduct security architecture reviews, threat modeling exercises, and security design assessments for new systems, major technology initiatives, and significant architectural changes.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the security technology roadmap, ensuring security capabilities evolve in alignment with business priorities and emerging threats.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and proof-of-concept testing of security technologies and services, assessing their effectiveness, scalability, strategic fit, and ability to address evolving business and technology risks.
  • Define integration patterns between security platforms, including SIEM, EDR, DLP, IAM, vulnerability management, and cloud security technologies, to improve visibility, automation, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Security Operations teams to ensure security technologies and controls are implemented in accordance with architectural standards and design requirements.
  • Translate business, regulatory, and customer security requirements into practical security architecture and technical control requirements.
  • Assess emerging technologies, cyber threats, attack techniques, and industry trends to identify opportunities for enhancing security capabilities and reducing organizational risk.
  • Support compliance initiatives, audits, risk assessments, and control testing activities by providing technical expertise and evidence of security control design and implementation.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to technology and business stakeholders, effectively communicating complex security concepts, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Champion security best practices and contribute to the ongoing maturity of Global Relay's security capabilities, architecture, and technology ecosystem.
  • Provide architectural guidance for the secure adoption of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, ensuring appropriate controls for data protection, identity and access management, monitoring, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

About You:

  • 8-10+ years in Cyber Security, with at least 3 years specifically in a Security Architect or Principal Engineer role overseeing large-scale, high-availability environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing security architectures and controls across cloud, infrastructure, network, application, identity, and data security domains.
  • Proven ability to translate business objectives, regulatory requirements, and technology strategies into practical security architecture patterns, standards, and technical controls.
  • Strong experience conducting security architecture reviews, threat modeling exercises, and secure design assessments for complex technology initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of modern security technologies and architectures, including IAM, SIEM, EDR, DLP, WAF, vulnerability management, cloud security, cryptography, PKI, certificate management, encryption technologies, HSMs, and enterprise key management practices.
  • Experience evaluating, selecting, and integrating security technologies within complex enterprise environments, including leading technical assessments and proof-of-concept activities.
  • Knowledge of secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC) practices, modern application architectures, APIs, and application security principles.
  • Working knowledge of industry frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Controls, SOC 2, and Zero Trust architectures.
  • Information Security certifications are highly desirable and may include CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP (Architecture), CCSP, CISM, SABSA, TOGAF, or equivalent industry-recognized credentials.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and documentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts and risks to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A methodical and strategic approach to problem solving, with a focus on designing solutions that are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence architectural decisions across Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Security teams.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing initiatives and deliver high-impact outcomes in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
