Vice President, Construction

Austin, Texas, United States

ICON builds robotic systems that construct homes and multi-story buildings. The company has raised more than $750M, including a $200M Series D in October 2026, commercially launched its multi-story Titan system, and holds $360M+ in government contracts across the Army, Air Force, DARPA, and NASA, including a $62.8M Army barracks contract at Fort Bliss. ICON Build is the general contracting division that delivers that work: private-sector residential and non-residential projects in Texas and Florida, horizontal land development, and all military construction won by ICON Prime. The division is growing its project volume, moving its mix toward non-residential buildings, and opening self-performed trades beyond printing.

The Vice President, Construction owns delivery from signed contract to finished building: estimating and the Program Management Office, project management, regional construction operations in Texas, Florida, and on military installations, construction purchasing and supply chain, and, after an initial transition, print operations. The role is accountable for schedule, budget, and quality on every project and for the division's construction gross margin.

You will report to the President, ICON Build and work alongside ICON Prime, Finance, and the Design, Building Science, Hardware, and Software teams. You will build the regional construction organization, the self-perform field team, and the purchasing and project controls that let ICON Build run multiple markets at once.

Responsibilities

Project Delivery and Field Operations

  • Own schedule, budget, and quality for every ICON Build project from contract through closeout, across residential, non-residential, civil, and military construction.
  • Lead regional construction operations through Directors of Construction in Texas, Milcon, and Florida, staffing each market ahead of its project starts and holding regional leaders accountable for field performance, subcontractor management, and safety.
  • Build the project management and superintendent bench that can schedule work and hold trades to it.

Preconstruction and Project Controls

  • Run preconstruction through the Estimating team and the Program Management Office, owning estimate accuracy, bid-to-build handoff, and the workflows that carry a project from business development through buildout.
  • Set the operating cadence that reports every project against baseline schedule and budget and surfaces variance early.

Purchasing and Self-Perform

  • Standardize construction purchasing: negotiate volume agreements on high-spend materials, run a long-lead procurement calendar for equipment, and set buyout controls that protect margin.
  • Open self-performed trades beyond printing, beginning with concrete foundations, including field leadership, purchasing, and the cost model that decides what Build self-performs next.

Print Operations and Military Construction

  • Take ownership of Print Operations after an initial transition, integrating printed structure into the project schedule and holding print output and quality to the same standards as the rest of the portfolio.
  • Serve as the construction executive for ICON Prime's military construction programs, delivering phased work to federal schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.

Financial Ownership and Team

  • Own construction gross margin for the division in partnership with Finance: project-level P&L, work-in-progress reporting, forecasting, and the actions that move margin.
  • Hire, develop, and lead the construction leadership team, including open regional and self-perform leadership seats.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive construction experience, including 7+ years leading construction leaders such as directors, project executives, or regional heads.
  • Accountable executive on a portfolio of at least $100M in annual construction volume across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Delivered ground-up vertical structures as the general contractor or owner-builder, not solely as an owner's representative or program manager.
  • Direct ownership of estimating and preconstruction, project management, and field operations at the same time in at least one prior role.
  • Experience managing construction procurement, including subcontractor buyout and material purchasing.
  • Based in Austin, TX, with travel to Texas and Florida job sites and military installations.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience in an owner-operator or vertically integrated builder that funds, designs, and builds its own assets.
  • Experience opening or running self-performed trades, especially concrete and foundations.
  • Federal or military construction delivery experience (USACE, NAVFAC, or similar).
  • Experience opening a new regional market for a general contractor.
  • Horizontal land development and civil construction experience.
  • Professional Engineer license or Certified Construction Manager credential.
