Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Linux Engineer strong expertise in Linux Administration and automation using Python and developing/consuming APIs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing complex Linux-based environments, driving infrastructure automation, improving system reliability, and enabling integrations through robust APIs.

Please note: This is a remote role, but you must currently reside in California, Oregon, or Washington State.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Linux Systems Administration 

  • Manage, configure, and maintain enterprise-scale Linux systems (primarily Ubuntu). 
  • Monitor system performance in Prometheus, conduct tuning, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness. 
  • Apply security best practices, patch management, and hardening of systems. 

Automation & Scripting 

  • Design and implement automation tools/scripts using Python for routine system tasks, deployments, monitoring, and reporting. 
  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, shell scripts, or other IaC tools to automate infrastructure management. 
  • Create self-service tools and scripts to enable developer and DevOps efficiency. 

API Development & Integration 

  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs to enable system integrations and services. 
  • Create Python-based tools to consume third-party APIs for orchestration or reporting purposes. 
  • Document and maintain API endpoints, security configurations, and access control mechanisms. 

Monitoring & Logging 

  • Implement and maintain centralized logging and monitoring solutions (e.g.,  Prometheus/Grafana, Graylog, etc.). 
  • Automate alerting and remediation actions based on system health and performance metrics. 

Collaboration & Support 

  • Work closely with DevOps, developers, and security teams to ensure seamless CI/CD pipeline integrations and secure infrastructure. 
  • Provide tier-3 support for developer issues, troubleshooting system and application problems. 

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing 

  • Create detailed documentation for system configurations, procedures, automation scripts, and APIs. 
  • Mentor junior team members and participate in training sessions or technical knowledge sharing. 

Required Skills & Experience: 

  • 5+ years of experience in Linux administration in production environments. 
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python for automation and tool development. 
  • Proficiency with RESTful API design, development, and integration. 
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible ). 
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and security practices. 
  • Familiarity with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and virtualization platforms. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Optional Skills & Experience:  

  • Experience with Storage platforms ( EMC, Pure, Vast, etc ) 
  • Experience with Virtualization technologies like VMWare 

 

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting annual base pay is between $200,000 and $240,000 for this California, Oregon, or Washington State based position. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The annual base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for bonus and equity.
