What You Will Do

As a Senior Staff AI Engineer, you will play a strategic leadership role in shaping Lattice's artificial intelligence initiatives. Your work will have a significant, organization-wide impact, driving the development of AI systems, particularly focusing on large language models (LLMs) and advanced machine learning technologies, while mentoring and empowering engineering teams to achieve technical excellence.

  • Contribute to Lattice's AI strategy by influencing technical and non-technical decisions to align cross-functional teams with organizational goals.
  • Use  your expertise to propose appropriate AI solutions to business problems, considering potential options in terms of customer value, cost and security. 
  • Lead technical evaluations of AI/ML vendors and platforms, providing strategic recommendations on build vs. buy decisions for AI infrastructure.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert, influencing and aligning organizational goals with technical possibilities in the AI domain.
  • Identify long-term AI opportunities and spearhead technical initiatives that adapt to future needs.
  • Design and lead the implementation of end-to-end architectures for AI/ML solutions, encompassing data pipelines, model development, integrating with existing products, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Develop and optimize LLM-based solutions tailored to Lattice’s people platform and product suite, ensuring scalability, latency, accuracy, and cost-efficiency.
  • Establish best practices for AI development, including AIOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines, feature flagging, and real-time model monitoring.
  • Mentor and guide engineers across the organization, fostering a culture of innovation and inclusion while promoting technical growth.

What You Will Bring to the Table

  • Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience designing and deploying scalable AI/ML, primarily LLM, systems in production environments.
  • LLM Expertise: Deep expertise in LLM techniques, including prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, RLHF, LoRA, and vector databases.
  • AIOps Leadership: Hands-on experience with AIOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform/CDK, MLflow, and DataDog for deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Technical Depth: Expertise in Python (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain) and cloud platforms, particularly AWS (Lambda, SQS, SNS), with a strong understanding of large-scale data engineering.
  • System Design: Exceptional end to end system design and well rounded architecture skills, capable of solving open-ended problems with innovative solutions.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to align technical work with larger business and organizational goals, exercising judgment to prioritize impactful outcomes.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Strong track record of influencing and mentoring engineers and cross-functional teams, fostering alignment and collaboration across departments.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with hybrid solutions combining traditional ML and LLMs, or multi-agent systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based AI services (AWS SageMaker, Google Cloud AI, Azure Machine Learning) 
  • Experience with TypeScript / Javascript as it is our current programming language (Our current stack includes NodeJS, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL. We rely on AWS to host our infrastructure)
  • Published research or professional presentations on AI topics.
  • Proficiency in multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

 

The estimated annual cash salary for this role is $218,500 - $273,000. This position is also eligible for incentive stock options, subject to the terms of Lattice’s applicable plans.
