Interim VP Growth & Search Marketing Contractor

Madison Reed is looking for an interim VP of Growth and Search Marketing to provide leadership and operate a team of high performing acquisition and lifecycle marketers, as well as be hands-on execution in Paid Search Marketing during a 5 month period while team members are on maternity leave. In partnership with key leadership like the CMO and Channel GMs, you will lead brand, media, and new customer acquisition and drive revenue growth across all omni-channels of the Madison Reed brand with a priority focus on Owned & Operated (Direct to Consumer, Hair Color Bars) plus Wholesale and Amazon.

This role reports to the CMO, is a full time contractor and remote. The role provides maternity leave coverage for two marketing roles (VP of Growth & Sr. Manager Paid Search) starting approximately mid-June through October 2025 (5 months). 

The contractor fee for this position is between $160 and $200 per hour, 40 hours per week. At Madison Reed, we aim to pay competitively. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

VP Growth Interim Function (75% of time)

  • Coach and develop team of high performing marketers across acquisition, lifecycle marketing and field marketing functions
  • Responsible for ongoing acquisition strategy and lead a team to execution that meets growth and LTV/CAC objectives across online and stores.
  • Oversee the development, testing, and execution of campaigns across a variety of channels: including but not limited to paid social, TV, direct mail, radio, podcast, SEM/SEO, out of home, local marketing
  • Provide leadership and strategic guidance, in support of our lifecycle strategy (i.e. Email, SMS, Push & Review CRM platform)
  • Provide thought partnership and planning guidance to PR, Partnerships, Influencer & Organic Social teams to scale these channels and deliver on both brand and growth goals
  • In partnership with Wholesale & Amazon GM teams, provide guidance and team support in execution of marketing initiatives specific to those channels
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with key business leaders like GMs, Finance, Digital Product, Engineering, Creative and Analytics
  • Present weekly/monthly reports on key growth KPIs with executive-level explanation of variances vs. plan and actionable insights and/or corrective actions
  • Financial planning, forecasting and KPI setting for acquisition business in partnership with GM and Finance teams

Sr Manager Paid Search Function (25% of time)

  • Support new customer acquisition being driven through hands on management of our Paid Search channels (Google, Microsoft, Yelp, etc.) delivering new client targets on budget for our Direct to Consumer and our Hair Color Bar businesses 
  • Lead Paid Search campaign implementation and execution through close collaboration with external vendors, reps, as well as internal teams
  • Collaborate with external partners on launching new campaigns, creative testing, implementing/QA’ing tagging and tracking, and monitoring performance to continue growth and success of existing and new acquisition programs
  • Work closely with internal teams such as creative, analytics, product – to compose briefs and establish timelines, create and distribute assets, execute creative and site testing, identify customer behavior, communicate results, etc. - to achieve acquisition goals
  • Maintain performance reporting and analysis across all Acquisition channels – aggregate and analyze data from a variety of sources (vendor reporting, Google Analytics, internal database, etc.) to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and identify insights into customer behavior
  • Implement and monitor testing initiatives that employ A/B and multivariate testing models to targeting, creative, and other campaign elements in order to maximize KPIs

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in growth marketing with a strong focus on digital acquisition & brand
  • 4+ years of recent experience in Google and other Paid Search platforms, managing programs with $100K+ average monthly spend in-house 
  • Experience in geo-targeting and localized search marketing
  • Expertise in paid social, digital advertising, offline channels, local/retail store marketing, SEM/SEO
  • Experience scaling spending in a dynamic marketplace while managing LTV/CAC
  • Expertise in growth forecasting and attribution modeling with the ability to build multi-channel growth models
  • Strong command of data with the ability to pull from structured and unstructured sources
  • Desire to roll up your sleeves and do the work, yet have experience and enthusiasm for building/leading a team
  • Exhibits a creative, experimental, iterative mindset with the desire to test and learn efficiently
  • Exhibits a strong product mindset with demonstrated experience owning user flows to drive customer acquisition

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, team members will regularly stand/walk for four plus consecutive hours; repetitive and regular bending and twisting at the waist; manipulating fingers and hands, bend and reach wrists and arms, reach with hands and arms or move up to ten pounds. May occasionally sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, and lift, push, pull up to ten pounds. Additionally, team members will communicate regularly with guests via ongoing conversations and consultations.
