Lead Data Analyst

Columbus, Ohio, United States

Importance of the Role

As the Data Analytics Lead at Matic, you will act as a subject matter expert and a crucial bridge between our foundational data execution and our overarching data strategy. Sitting perfectly between our Data Analysts and the Director of Data Analytics, you will take ownership of complex data projects, generating analytical insights that drive business outcomes and help scale our vast data ecosystem efficiently.

We rely on data to set the direction of our business. In this role you will be relied upon by other team members for your expertise. You will independently solve complex problems, manage project strategies from inception to completion, and champion a team-centric, data-driven culture without needing daily direction. You will also collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Matic — including product, engineering, operations, marketing, finance, and the agency—to translate business needs into requirements and actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Project Strategy & Execution: Create project strategies and manage them to completion, including coordinating with other team members cross-functionally. Set priorities and self-manage to deadlines, reporting critical findings to leadership.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the domain leader in data integration, transformation, visualization, and experimentation design. Demonstrate an in-depth ability to solve complex problems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a data liaison between business leaders and data producers/consumers. Value cross-functional input immensely and translate business questions into actionable product requirements.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor junior data analysts and peers. Contribute to process improvements that enable others, balance individual work with a team-centric structure,  and exert a strong, positive cultural influence.
  • Problem Solving & Agility: Identify business issues and implement solutions in swift iterations before they become critical problems. Navigate obstacles effortlessly without impeding agility or execution.
  • Self-Service & Evangelism: Build scalable and flexible reporting to be published for self-service data exploration. Champion a data-driven culture at Matic by training the organization to make the best use of available data.

Key Highlights

  • Advanced Data Analysis & Modeling: Gather, clean, and organize data from various sources. Create high-impact predictive models and statistical analyses that guide our acquisition, retention, and monetization efforts.
  • Data Visualization: Develop highly informative, visually appealing dashboards using Tableau and Metabase to present actionable findings effectively.
  • Data Architecture & Governance: Assist in overseeing Matic’s data analytics stack—from data collection and storage to validation and governance. Ensure derived data fields are correctly computed in our ELT stack of Meltano, DBT, and Snowflake.
  • Hypothesis Testing: Design robust reporting to support business-led A/B tests and experiments, evaluating the precise impact of new initiatives.
  • Data Analytics Tools: The success of our team is through the use of the tools we use on a daily basis; Snowflake, Metabase, Tableau, DBT, and Github. The application of AI to increase speed to delivery is an area that continues to speed our question to answer cycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field (Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, etc.).
  • 5-8 years of progressive work experience in a data analytics or business intelligence role, demonstrating deep ownership of projects.
  • Subject matter expertise with SQL query optimization, DBT, Snowflake, and ELT design.
  • Extensive experience with Tableau, Metabase, or other advanced visualization platforms.
  • Solid decision-making skills and the ability to communicate complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of navigating ambiguity, prioritizing effectively, and meeting tight deadlines while anticipating business needs.
  • Non-competitive, team-player mindset with a strong ability to accept feedback, collaborate, and influence process improvements.

Bonus Points

  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • A strong understanding of statistical analysis (e.g., hypothesis testing, regressions) and familiarity with Python or R.
  • Familiarity with any of the business systems that feed the creation of our data structures, including: Callabrio, Rippit, SurveySparrow, Telephony, MaestroQA, Iterable, IVANS, or AMS360.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
