Senior Director, Security Engineering

United States of America (USA)

Remote | Full-Time

Lead Secure, Scalable Engineering at Modus Create

At Modus Create, we help organizations build modern platforms and products with confidence. As Senior Director of Security Engineering, you will lead and scale our Security Engineering capability—owning its vision, maturity, and impact across client delivery, internal operations, and long-term growth.

This role blends strategic leadership, deep technical credibility, and a consulting mindset, ensuring security is embedded into how we design, build, ship, and operate modern systems. You will guide Directors and senior practitioners, shape security strategy across platforms and products, and serve as a trusted advisor to executives, clients, and internal partners.

This role reports to a VP of Product Engineering Services and works closely with engineering, platform, delivery, sales, and operations leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Embed Security into Modern Delivery

  • Integrate security into development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Drive shift-left security practices in partnership with platform and product teams.
  • Ensure security tooling and controls enable delivery velocity rather than block it.
  • Promote secure-by-design patterns across cloud-native and platform environments.

Deliver Trusted, Secure Systems

  • Lead threat modeling, vulnerability management, and remediation planning across engagements.
  • Guide incident readiness, root cause analysis, and systemic risk reduction.
  • Ensure security risks are clearly articulated, prioritized, and addressed.
  • Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term security posture.

Lead & Grow Security Teams

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Directors and senior security practitioners.
  • Set clear expectations around ownership, quality, and professional growth.
  • Build leadership depth and succession to support scale.
  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous learning.

Shape Security Strategy & Best Practices

  • Define and evolve security standards, frameworks, and reusable patterns.
  • Establish best practices for application, cloud, and platform security.
  • Ensure practices scale appropriately across clients and maturity levels.
  • Continuously improve security craft based on real delivery feedback.

Business Development & Client Advisory

  • Partner with Sales and Delivery to shape security-led solutions and proposals.
  • Serve as a senior security advisor in client conversations, workshops, and reviews.
  • Help position Modus as a trusted security and engineering partner.
  • Contribute to pipeline growth through solutioning and executive credibility.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Platform, Product, and Operations leaders.
  • Align security strategy with broader technical and delivery priorities.
  • Influence organizational practices around secure development and reliability.
  • Strengthen collaboration across capabilities to deliver cohesive outcomes.

What Sets You Apart

  • Empathetic Leader: 15+ years in security, software, or systems engineering roles, with 7+ years leading senior security engineers, managers, or Directors—ideally in global, distributed, or consulting environments.
  • Technical Depth: Hands-on experience with modern security engineering across application, cloud, and platform environments, including secure SDLC, CI/CD security, infrastructure-as-code, and threat modeling.
  • Business Savvy: Proven success supporting pre-sales, solutioning, and growing security-led engagements within enterprise or mid-market accounts.
  • Builder and Mentor: Demonstrated ability to build scalable security practices, uplift team capabilities, and develop high-performing, inclusive security engineering teams.
  • Client-Centric: Strong empathy for client risk, constraints, and delivery realities, with the ability to translate security needs into pragmatic, measurable outcomes.
  • Communicator & Collaborator: Effective across technical, executive, and cross-functional settings, with the ability to clearly articulate risk, tradeoffs, and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.

Technical Skills

  • Security Engineering: secure-by-design systems, threat modeling, risk assessment, vulnerability management, penetration testing, incident readiness and remediation
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Security: cloud security architecture, multi-account strategy, IAM, network security, shared services, secure landing zones

  • Governance & Compliance: security controls, audit readiness, evidence-based reporting, risk management frameworks
  • Architecture & Systems: distributed systems security, scalability considerations, fault tolerance, integration patterns, system hardening

Tools & Platforms

  • Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
