Mapping Analyst

Mission Summary:

The Mapping Analyst will provide global support to the Map Operations team and support launching autonomous vehicle service in new cities around the country and the world. The Mapping Analyst will provide support to the Market Entry Map Operations team by collecting infrastructure data and analyzing road features and work closely with product and engineering teams to guide feature development, and will support the global team by annotating maps, assisting with data-collection and map validation.

The Motional Las Vegas office is located less than 10 miles from the Las Vegas strip at 730 E Pilot Road, the Las Vegas office is home to one of the largest fleets of self-driving vehicles. The city’s grid system of roads and being one of America’s “smart cities” allows for extensive research and development testing.

Essential Duties:

  • Annotate/digitize high-definition maps of roads that are used for autonomous driving, using in-house mapping software, and play an active role in the expansion and maintenance of mapped areas
  • Perform in-depth analysis of road infrastructure using multiple data sources
  • Conduct various validation tests to ensure quality control, including a peer-reviewing process with fellow mapping a, and conduct in-house vehicle simulations
  • Investigate and fix map-related issues, conduct testing and update maps upon receiving feedback from the vehicle operations team or reviewing logs from vehicle runs
  • Ensure that the annotated maps are ultimately well-validated, road-worthy and accurate while making rides safe, comfortable and error-free
  • Identify pickup/dropoff areas to comply with market demand and AV capabilities
  • Document and streamline map production and maintenance processes, and ensure that all map annotation best practices are well-documented and adhered to
  • Work closely with the mapping software development team to investigate map data issues, report and replicate software bugs, conduct testing and provide useful feedback to improve the mapping software
  • Work with engineering teams to identify, document, and prioritize features for engineering development
  • Collaborate with product team to help define the company’s operating area
  • Provide field support for road operations
  • Support global mapping efforts
  • Able to travel domestically to target cities for on-the-ground data collection and road study
  • Additional duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Background in working with mapping software, GIS, AutoCAD or other spatial design software
  • Bachelor Degree in geography, science, engineering preferred, minimally 6 month  experience with 2 to 5 years of experience highly preferred
  • Knowledge of road traffic rules and regulations required
  • Highly attentive to quality and detail; experience with QA/QC process preferred
  • Enthusiasm for the AV industry as well as safety/mobility is preferred
  • Able to present in front of small-medium groups 
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft/G-Suite applications including PowerPoint/Slides, Excel/Sheets, Word/Doc
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Minimum of at least 6 months of driving experience

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and at times for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. The estimated compensation range listed in this job posting reflects base salary only. This role may include additional forms of compensation such as a bonus or company equity. Salary Range

$75,000 - $98,213 USD
