Bellevue, Washington; Chicago, Illinois; New York, New York; Washington, DC

Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human

Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

At Okta, we're building a world where anyone can safely use any technology, and we're specifically focused on protecting the future of work. We bring simple and secure access to people and organizations everywhere, promising to not only protect the identities of our customers' workforce and users, but to ask, “what more can we make possible?” This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

We are looking for a talented Staff Product Designer who can help shape Okta’s expansive product portfolio by bringing exceptional craft and fresh perspective to the world of identity and security.

Finer print

You will be designing the user experience for Okta Identity Governance. Large companies need to know who should have access to what and prove it to auditors. We build the tools for requesting, reviewing, and managing that access. At our customers' scale, one review can involve the whole company. Making that feel simple and intuitive is your job.

What you will do

  • Own the long-term design strategy for your product area, shaping where it goes across multiple releases, not just the roadmap in front of you.
  • Partner with design leadership to define the patterns and standards other designers build on, and raise the quality bar in your area.
  • Lead through influence, aligning product, engineering, research, and content partners around a direction without relying on authority.
  • Design end-to-end journeys that span the Okta portfolio and multiple personas: IT and security admins, compliance owners, resource owners, approving managers, and end users.
  • Bring a systems-thinking lens, connecting user insights to business goals to create experiences that keep millions of users safe every day.
  • Facilitate co-creation workshops with Product Management and Engineering to frame opportunities and shape what's worth building.
  • Mentor senior designers by guiding them on their projects and supporting their growth and career development.
  • Present ideas and concepts to adjacent teams and senior leadership to drive alignment and influence product decisions.
  • Advocate and encourage thoughtful use of AI for researching, brainstorming, iterating on potential solutions, prototyping, and collaborating with team members.

What we are looking for

  • You have experience leading cross-discipline teams and see design as a partner with PM and Engineering in shaping strategic and operational product and UX outcomes.
  • You move easily between big-picture thinking and detail, and create clarity in ambiguity for your team and partners, not just yourself.
  • You have the heart of a teacher and can help mentor and train people.
  • You are a thought leader, undertaking explorations into new technologies and territories while also delivering practical designs.
  • You are passionate about crafting and sharing product and design UX principles to help teams deliver cohesive user experiences.
  • You work AI into your design process — building tools and reusable prompts — and you vet its output for accuracy, design system fit, and usability before it ships.
  • You keep user goals at the heart of your solutions, building and sharing empathy to deeply understand people's needs, while balancing business objectives and engineering considerations.
  • You are comfortable owning all stages of design within a given product area.
  • You showcase storytelling skills to communicate your design ideas to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Your portfolio will show that you've worked on complex and challenging technical projects across all aspects of the design process (generative and evaluative research, discovery, interaction design, information architecture, visual design, etc.)
  • You share our values, and work in accordance with those values.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related field or relevant work experience as a Product Designer or UX Designer.
  • Proficient in Figma or similar design tools.
  • At least a basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • A digital portfolio showing depth across a variety of projects, including work that shipped and was used in real products. (Portfolio link required when applying.)
  • 7+ years of experience as Product Designer

**This person must attend in person orientation the first week of employment in either San Francisco or Chicago.
