Senior Power Systems
Orange County
Senior Power Systems Electrical Engineer – Plasma & High Voltage
Location: San Francisco or Orange County office (In-person)
Who We Are
Omen is miniaturizing lab-grade spectroscopy into field-deployable embedded
sensors. Our systems deliver PPM-level trace analysis reports on the fluids in
industrial machines and datacenters, allowing us to detect complex wear trends
like bearing failures or coolant contamination in real-time. With this data we can
automatically match anomalies with failure modes weeks to months before
catastrophic failure occurs.
We don’t build things that are good enough, we build things that are 100x better.
The Challenge
We are currently developing two primary systems:
Omen Scout: for closed-loop hydraulic and lubricating oils.
Omen Sentry: for direct-to-chip liquid cooling loops (typ. water/glycol
mixtures).
Our early-stage prototypes have proven the core viability of our spectroscopy
techniques, but we are looking for someone with more experience in HV power
systems and/or plasma generation to formalize the power architecture for
production. We need someone to lead the rigorous engineering required to take
this from working prototypes to a scalable, highly controlled system.
What You Will Do
Own the Power Architecture: Lead the design and execution of our high-
voltage power systems. You will conduct rigorous, experimentation-
forward studies on plasma generation topologies and implement a highly
controlled, reliable architecture for sustained emissions.
Solve Fluid-Specific Challenges: Collaborate with our
mechanical/mechatronics team to architect and test isolation mechanisms
for the Sentry system, enabling safe and repeatable HV discharge in
conductive fluids.
Manage EMI: Design the necessary shielding/isolation/filtration to protect
low voltage boards and sensitive optical equipment from conducted and
radiated EMI.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with our machine
learning team to deliver stable hardware that provides consistent spectral
data required for predictive failure modeling.
What We Are Looking For
Extensive experience designing high-voltage power supplies, prefer
experience with both resonant and flyback topologies.
Approaches problems from a fundamental physics perspective e.g.
dielectric breakdown, physical chemistry, and electromagnetism. Thinks
beyond reference designs i.e. first-principles approach.
Practical experience managing ground loops, designing internal
enclosures, and keeping logic boards operational in violently noisy
electrical environments.
Fast, practical, rigorous. E.g. running rapid trade studies, building benchtop
prototypes, and iterating quickly to solve complex physics problems.
Why Omen?
We take the physics seriously, but we don’t let red tape slow us down. If you want
to own a fascinating hardware problem from the ground up and build something
that protects the most expensive infrastructure on the planet, we want to talk to
you.
