Software Engineer
Who We Are
Omen is miniaturizing lab-grade spectroscopy into field-deployable embedded sensors. Our systems deliver PPM-level trace analysis reports on the fluids in industrial machines and datacenters, allowing us to detect complex wear trends like hydraulic cylinder failures or coolant contamination in real-time.
The Role
You will join the engineering team working on the backend services and platform infrastructure that power our diagnostics. This is a blend of product-minded feature development and building robust, reliable systems. You'll bring a security conscious approach to your work, take ownership of project workstreams, and collaborate closely with the engineering team.
We're open to strong mid-level and senior engineers. Technical depth, good judgment, and genuine interest in hard problems matter more to us than a title.
Core Responsibilities
- Backend Development: Design and build scalable, reliable backend services that handle sensitive industrial data.
- Platform Engineering: Contribute to and improve our cloud infrastructure, keeping it performant and maintainable alongside the team.
- Security Fundamentals: Apply security best practices throughout the development lifecycle. Thinking defensively and building systems that handle sensitive data with care.
- Code Quality: Uphold high standards for code quality and technical documentation, contributing to a culture of engineering excellence.
- Technical Collaboration: Work closely with the team on architectural decisions, ensuring alignment across backend and platform projects.
Requirements
- Solid experience with backend development and platform engineering.
- Security-conscious mindset; you think about security as part of how you build, not as an afterthought.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and distributed infrastructure.
- Familiarity with API design and responsible handling of sensitive data.
- In-office 5 days a week at our SF office.
