We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cloud Engineer with a strong background in AWS services, containerization, and cloud operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and supporting cloud-based infrastructure using AWS, with a primary focus on containerized applications and operational excellence best practices.
We are looking for a problem-solving-oriented person who can tackle complex system design engineering problems in distributed cloud computing environments. Our new colleague needs to have the ability to think on their feet, think outside the box, and drive problem solutions and the current day-to-day operational challenges with a continuous improvement mindset. Communication and collaboration skills are a must since our initiatives stretch across a globally distributed team working in 3 different timezones.
What you will be doing, your legacy:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cloud Engineer with a strong background in AWS services, containerization, and cloud operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and supporting cloud-based infrastructure using AWS, with a primary focus on containerized applications and operations.
AWS Infrastructure Management
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure on AWS.
- Configure and manage AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
Containerization & Orchestration
- Deploy and manage containerized applications using AWS services like ECS, EKS, GitOPS, Flux & Skaffold
- Develop and optimize Docker containers and K8s clusters for seamless deployment and scaling
- Adopt a Shift Left On Security approach in building and securing our Docker images and K8s clusters
Automation & DevOps Practices
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or Rundeck
- Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning, orchestrate the deployment, and implement the relevant monitoring processes.
- Work closely with development teams to automate the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
Monitoring & Incident Response
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and ensure the performance of containerized applications.
- Monitoring and logging tools like CloudWatch, New Relic, and Grafana are used to monitor container performance, health, and availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and container-related issues promptly.
- Participate in incident response, post-mortem analysis, and infrastructure optimization.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure security best practices are followed for containerized applications, including image scanning, secrets management, and network security.
- Implement and maintain policies for access control, encryption, and other security measures within AWS and containers.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Collaborate with development teams to define infrastructure needs and assist in designing scalable solutions.
- Maintain documentation on infrastructure architecture, CI/CD pipelines, containerization strategies, and best practices.
Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services, containerization (Docker), and container orchestration tools (ECS, EKS, Kubernetes).
- Cloud Expertise: Deep understanding of AWS services and tools like EC2, S3, Lambda, VPC, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, and IAM.
- Containerization: Strong experience in Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized application deployment on AWS. Good experience in working in a GitOPS environment using FluxCD and Skaffold
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Good experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools for infrastructure automation and configuration management.
- CI/CD Tools: Advanced knowledge of tools like GitLab, Jenkins, etc.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) to automate tasks and manage infrastructure.
- Advanced knowledge in Linux system administration (networking, user management, etc.)
- Ability to mentor and coach your colleagues and guide best practices for cloud architecture and operational excellence.
- Troubleshooting: Good knowledge in troubleshooting complex cloud-related issues and optimizing cloud infrastructure.
- Security Awareness: Knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure, containers, and data protection.
- Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to identify and resolve infrastructure and application issues.
- Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and clearly communicate complex concepts.
Desired skills or interests in:
- Passion for cloud technology staying up to speed with current new advancements in cloud computing.
- DevOps culture advocate, in-depth knowledge of the available tools and best practices (CICD, Shift Left On Security / Quality).
- Automate first and have a continuous improvement mindset.
- Always think in terms of reliability, performance, scalability, and cost optimization.
- Multi-cloud / hybrid-cloud experience is a plus.
- AWS-related certifications are a plus (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineering, Administration)
- Kubernetes certifications are a plus (CKA, CKD, CKS)
- Compliance and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2).
- Cybersecurity concepts and/or administration of SAP landscape.

Location:
Onapsis is establishing a new development center in Bucharest. This is a hybrid role, so candidates must be commutable to Bucharest.
