About the Role

PrizePicks is seeking a Tax & Compliance Reporting Manager to own the company's end-to-end tax function and drive cross-functional compliance initiatives. Reporting to senior Finance leadership, this individual will serve as the internal subject matter expert across partnership taxation, indirect taxes, and information reporting — while managing the day-to-day relationship with our external tax advisory firm and leading collaboration with the Compliance team on FCM (Futures Commission Merchant) reporting obligations.

This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role for a tax professional who thrives at the intersection of technical expertise and operational execution. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable preparing estimating taxable income, preparing quarterly estimates, staying abreast and applying state tax developments as well as expanding skills into adjacent areas including indirect tax and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Own

Partnership Tax

  • Primary owner of relationship with external tax advisor
  • Primary owner of relationship with Parent tax team and external advisor
  • Close collaboration with external tax advisor and PrizePicks Accounting team, ensuring all returns are filed and payments are made accurately and on time
  • Primary cross-functional coordinator for annual tax credit studies, including state and federal R&D tax tax credit
  • Prepare and maintain estimated taxable income for estimated payments and cash flow forecasting
  • Relationship with state and federal agencies, receiving and responding to notices, providing recommendation of action to VP, Controller
  • Strong partnership with PrizePicks legal team in coordinating communications with partnership members, specifically for tax-related questions.
  • Monitor partnership agreement changes and assess tax implications in coordination with Legal and Finance
  • Maintain and reconcile partner capital accounts and ensure accurate allocations in accordance with the partnership agreement
  • Oversee BBA (Bipartisan Budget Act) compliance procedures and partnership audit readiness

Indirect Taxes

  • Annual indirect tax risk assessment, providing recommendation of action to VP, Controller
  • Manage daily fantasy sports (DFS) tax obligations, including preparation of returns and payments, staying current on state-specific DFS tax laws, rates, and filing requirements as the regulatory landscape evolves
  • Partner with PrizePicks Finance to ensure forecasts reflect most updated indirect tax assumptions

Information Reporting (1099 / FATCA)

  • Own end-to-end 1099 reporting program, including 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, and 1099-K filings for vendors, contractors, and prize winners
  • Close partnership with the Product team to ensure the tax information collection process and workflow is correctly configured within the product
  • Key owner of relationship with third-party 1099 vendor
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Operations to maintain accurate payee records and threshold tracking throughout the year

Third-Party Tax Advisory Relationship

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and day-to-day liaison with PrizePicks' external tax advisory firm
  • Manage project scoping, deliverable timelines, and quality review for all outsourced tax work
  • Ensure the advisory firm has timely access to accurate financial data and documentation
  • Evaluate the advisory relationship on an ongoing basis and support any RFP processes as needed

Tax Monitoring & Research

  • Proactively monitor federal, state, and local tax law changes — with particular attention to DFS legislation, nexus developments, and partnership tax reform.
  • Prepare and communicate timely internal memos and briefings on material tax developments affecting the business
  • Provide tax technical support for M&A, new product launches, and strategic initiatives as needed

Cross-Functional Compliance & FCM Reporting

  • Own the Finance team's relationship with the Compliance team, serving as the primary point of accountability for all tax-related compliance inquiries
  • Lead and manage all FCM (Futures Commission Merchant) reporting requirements, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete submissions
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Operations to develop and maintain internal controls, documentation standards, and audit-ready processes
  • Support regulatory examinations and audits by coordinating information requests and preparing response packages

What You have

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), active
  • 5+ years of progressive tax experience, with meaningful exposure to partnership taxation in a public accounting or in-house setting
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state tax compliance requirements and regulatory research tools (e.g., Bloomberg Tax, Checkpoint), with a focus on state compliance including various filings such as composite, non-resident withholding, and PTET
  • Proven ability to manage external advisors and vendor relationships effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex tax issues for non-tax audiences
  • High attention to detail with strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

What makes you stand out:

  • Experience with private with a private equity operating company, either as an advisor or “in house”
  • Experience in indirect tax compliance
  • Experience with 1099 information reporting programs (1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-K)
  • Experience in the online gaming or fintech industries.
  • Familiarity with DFS-specific tax regulations and state licensing frameworks.
  • Experience with tax technology tools (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE).

The typical salary range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000. At PrizePicks, we consider your role, level, and where you'll be working when determining our salary ranges. Your actual pay within that range will depend on your specific work location, as well as your skills, experience, and education. Your
