Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting

Why We Have This Role

Qualtrics is looking for a proactive, collaborative Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting, based in our Provo office. Reporting to the Global Head of Accounting, you will own our technical accounting positions and external financial reporting. You’ll be the company’s authority on US GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition, and a key leader in our global close, consolidation, reporting, and annual audit. You’ll research complex transactions, write and update the accounting policies and memos behind them, and make sure our financial statements and disclosures are accurate, timely, and well supported. You’ll also streamline processes, help implement new systems to support growth, and communicate clearly with finance, business, and audit partners. Adaptability, high standards, and a positive approach matter here.

How You’ll Find Success

  • You take initiative. You understand the expected outcome, get the context, and work entrepreneurially to deliver it.
  • You explain complex accounting in plain terms and influence stakeholders at every level, building trust across Finance, Sales, Legal, and Tax.
  • You build the team by teaching, mentoring, and learning alongside others in Finance.
  • You find efficiencies by automating accounting processes and developing new AI use cases.

How You’ll Grow

  • This role is built for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in technical accounting, consolidation, and SEC-style financial reporting.
  • You’ll build leadership skills by serving as a trusted advisor to senior finance leadership.

Things You’ll Do

Technical accounting

  • Serve as the company’s technical accounting lead. Research, analyze, and document positions on revenue recognition (ASC 606), business combinations, leases, stock-based compensation, debt, income taxes, and other US GAAP areas.
  • Write and maintain accounting policies and technical memos, including SSP and revenue allocation methodologies, and keep them current as the business and standards change.
  • Review significant and non-routine contracts and transactions with Sales, Legal, and FP&A, and advise on their accounting impact.
  • Monitor new FASB and SEC pronouncements and lead their assessment and implementation.

Financial reporting and consolidation

  • Lead the global consolidation and reporting process. This includes reviewing roll-ups into the reporting currency and group financials (P&L, balance sheet, cash flows, and equity).
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements, footnote disclosures, lender reporting, and other packages for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accounts.
  • Lead the annual consolidated audit and work directly with external auditors on group and statutory audits.

Controls, process, and teams

  • Design, document, and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, and ensure they are applied consistently across the business.
  • Lead management’s annual and quarterly internal control assessment, including design and implementation of necessary controls in order to be SOX ready.
  • Take on ad hoc finance and accounting projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For On Your Resume

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 10+ years of accounting experience, or a Master’s degree in Accounting with 8+ years.
  • Active CPA license (required).
  • Big 4 or public accounting audit experience.
  • Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP, with significant hands-on ASC 606 experience in a software or technology company (strongly preferred).
  • Experience drafting technical accounting memos and presenting positions to auditors and senior leadership.
  • Experience mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Comfort in an environment of rapid change and growth, with strong organization and attention to detail.
  • A One Team mindset and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including with senior management.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

US Demographic Questions

Why are you being asked to fill out two sets of demographic questions? Qualtrics is required by the federal government to distribute the Equal Employment Opportunity questions exactly as they are written. However, we recognize that the questions do not fully capture the fullness of a person’s identity and experience when it comes to gender identity, sexual orientation and race. DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) is a cornerstone of our company culture. We are committed to inclusivity in our hiring process and want to give you the opportunity to self-describe your identity.

With this in mind, we invite you to participate in this additional set of voluntary demographic questions. The data collected will be used anonymously and in aggregate, so we can evaluate our processes to ensure we’re providing equal opportunities to applicants from all backgrounds. Your responses, or your choice not to respond, will not be associated with your specific application and will not in any way be used for individual hiring or compensation decisions.
