Job Summary:

The Category Sourcing Manager is a new role that will be responsible for executing sourcing strategies across a broad portfolio of indirect spend categories, including marketing services, corporate professional services, and SaaS solutions following the merger of Crown Laboratories and Revance Therapeutics.

Via the 7-step strategic sourcing process, this role will partner with cross-functional stakeholders at all levels across all corporate and manufacturing departments to drive value creation and support change management initiatives to implement new indirect procurement policy, process, and an e-procurement platform in 2027.

A successful candidate will thrice in an entrepreneurial environment where formal indirect procurement policy, process, software tools, spend visibility, and contract governance capabilities are being developed. The ideal candidate combines exceptional emotional intelligence, soft communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and influencing skills to enable effective negotiation results with employees and suppliers.

Location:            Johnson City, TN (preferred; hybrid - 4 days/week onsite) or Nashville, TN (hybrid – 3 days/week onsite)

Responsibilities/Essential Duties:

  • Category Management & Strategic Sourcing (annual addressable spend: ~$150M)
    • Maintain category plans and execute category strategies across indirect spend categories, including:
      • Marketing Services: agencies, media buying, digital marketing, creative services, market research, etc.
      • Corporate Professional Services: HR, Finance, Legal.
      • IT: software, hosting, technical services, desktop hardware.
      • Manufacturing: MRO, equipment, technical services.
      • Identify sourcing opportunities that generate measurable financial value and supplier risk reduction.
      • Lead medium to high complexity sourcing events that have a high impact on business operations.
      • Execute to category roadmaps that align business requirements with corporate objectives.
      • Analyze spend data and market conditions to identify opportunities and establish negotiation strategies.
      • When required to enable business continuity, perform sourcing and negotiations to acquire direct materials.
    • Supplier Relationship Management:
      • In partnership with business stakeholders, develop and maintain key supplier relationships.
      • Establish supplier performance management processes, scorecards, and business reviews with key suppliers.
      • Lead supplier negotiations involving pricing structures, rate cards, service-level agreements, and renewal strategies.
      • In partnership with legal and business stakeholders, address supplier performance problems and disputes.
    • Contract & Commercial Leadership:
      • Partner with Legal, Finance, IT, HR, Marketing, and Operations to negotiate favorable commercial agreements.
      • Collect scope requirements and lead negotiations for:
        • Master Services Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs)
        • Software License Agreements and Order Forms
      • Improve commercial terms, supplier onboarding requirements, and contract governance practices.
      • Identify and mitigate commercial, operational, compliance, and supplier risks.
    • Stakeholder Engagement & Influence:
      • Build trusted advisor relationships across all levels of the organization.
      • Influence stakeholders without direct authority to adhere to policies, to reduce maverick spend.
      • Influence stakeholders to obtain alignment when priorities are in conflict.
      • Navigate ambiguous situations and identify practical solutions that balance speed, cost, quality, and risk.
      • Draft and present executive-ready business cases, recommendations, and sourcing strategies.
    • Procurement Transformation & Change Management:
      • Support medium-complexity change initiatives related to procurement policies, source-to-contract processes, supplier governance, contract management, spend visibility, and procurement technology adoption.
      • Identify opportunities to improve procurement operating models and stakeholder engagement.
      • Support implementation and adoption of procurement tools, reporting capabilities, and workflow processes.

 
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree & 8+ years’ directly related experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ strategic sourcing experience acquiring professional services that support Marketing, IT, Finance, HR, and Manufacturing departments.
  • Experience from pharmaceutical, biotech, med-device, consumer healthcare, or life science companies.
  • Experience building procurement capabilities in a growing or transforming organization.
  • Knowledge of procurement platforms, CLM tools, spend analysis solutions, and source-to-pay processes.
  • CPSM, CIPS, or other relevant professional certifications.
  • Emotional intelligence: active listening, empathy, and self-awareness.
  • Influencing: ability to drive decisions and organizational alignment without direct authority.
  • Negotiation Excellence: strength in leading difficult negotiations and managing sophisticated suppliers.
  • Change Management: promote organizational change while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships.
  • Strategic Thinking: translates business objectives into sourcing strategies that create measurable value.
  • Adaptability: comfortable operating in environments with low structure, imperfect data, and evolving processes.
  • Business Partnership Oriented: viewed by stakeholders as a trusted advisor rather than a policy enforcer.
