The Legal Support Intern provides entry-level administrative, organizational, and document management support to our in-house legal department. This role offers practical exposure to corporate legal operations, while supporting internal processes related to contracts, compliance, corporate records, and legal workflow coordination.

This position is intended for a candidate seeking hands-on experience in and exposure to the day-to-day workings of a professional legal environment. Work will be performed under the direction of attorneys and paralegals, with assignments focused on accuracy, confidentiality, responsiveness, logistics and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with intake, organization, tracking, filing, and maintenance of contracts, amendments, nondisclosure agreements, and other routine legal documents.
  • Support contract administration by monitoring internal routing and contract execution within SBE’s document management system (Unifier) and other department tools, and by helping maintain accurate records of approvals, renewals, notices, and key dates.
  • Organize and maintain electronic /physical legal records, files, policy libraries, matter folders, signature documents, and other department repositories.
  • Provide general legal administrative support, including process improvement assistance, inbox and correspondence support, and other assigned department tasks.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling privileged, proprietary, and sensitive business information in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist with corporate recordkeeping, entity management support, compliance tracking, and deadline monitoring.
  • Attend internal training on company systems, department procedures, legal operations, workflows, and task-efficiency practices.
  • Assist with coordinating legal and compliance-related information requests from internal stakeholders, helping ensure timely, accurate, and organized responses.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, an undergraduate, paralegal studies, legal studies, business, or related academic program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, manage deadlines, and follow through on tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with Generative AI and Microsoft Office Suite or comparable business productivity tools, with the ability to learn internal legal, contract, document management, and workflow systems. Familiarity with Unifier or similar program a plus.
  • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with attorneys, legal staff, internal business stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Familiarity with document management systems, matter management tools, e-signature platforms, or contract lifecycle tools.

Learning Objectives

This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to the operations of an in-house legal department. Through supervised assignments, the intern will:

  • Develop foundational skills in contract support, corporate recordkeeping, compliance tracking, and business-facing legal administration.
  • Gain hands-on experience with contract administration, document management, and internal legal operations systems, including Unifier and other department platforms, to support legal workflows and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Receive regular feedback and coaching from the supervising Corporate Paralegal and legal team to support growth in communication and legal operations skills.
  • Build practical task-management skills by assisting with intake, prioritization, follow-up, and status tracking for legal department requests.
  • Understand how the Legal & Compliance function collaborates with Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations, and Leadership to support business objectives.
  • Develop professional communication skills by assisting with internal correspondence, information requests, meeting preparation, and follow-up documentation.
  • Learn basic process improvement approaches within the legal department, including identifying efficiency opportunities and supporting implementation of streamlined workflows.

Role Parameters

This internship is a supervised support position within the legal department. The intern will not provide legal advice, approve legal positions on behalf of the company, negotiate or finalize contracts without authorization, sign legal documents, or independently communicate legal conclusions to internal or external parties unless specifically directed to do so by authorized legal department personnel.

 

Location: Headquarters in Redwood City, CA. We have a hybrid office setup.

Hourly pay: $25-$30 per hour
