Join us in making the impossible possible, where your expertise becomes a catalyst for life-changing treatments.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Patient Access & Field Reimbursement, the Field Reimbursement Manager is a field-based subject matter expert dedicated to supporting patient access to, uniQure’s novel gene therapy, within an assigned territory. Serving as the local reimbursement expert, the role educates healthcare providers at potential and active treatment sites on appropriate coverage, coding and payment dynamics. This individual is responsible for identifying issues, completing a root cause analysis and helping to resolve reimbursement and access barriers across the patient journey. Given the one-time nature of gene therapy, the role plays a critical part in preparing and supporting centers of excellence and treatment sites so that eligible patients can access treatment. All activities are conducted in strict adherence to uniQure’s legal, regulatory, and compliance standards, maintaining appropriate separation from Account Management.

  • Support the end-to-end reimbursement journey through benefit investigations, prior authorizations, appeals, and buy-and-bill versus specialty pharmacy considerations to help minimize barriers to patient access.
  • Educate accounts on relevant medical benefit design, applicable coding (e.g., J-codes, CPT, ICD), site-of-care considerations, and payer policy requirements specific to a one-time gene therapy.
  • Collaborate, as needed, uniQure’s patient support Case Managers and Payor Account Directors and externally with treatment centers, to resolve patient-specific and systemic access issues.
  • Support onboarding and launch readiness of new treatment sites and disease centers of excellence, coordinating with cross-functional partners to ensure sites are prepared to deliver treatment.
  • Proactively identify, track, and communicate payer policy changes, reimbursement trends, and access barriers to internal stakeholders, including Market Access and all field leadership.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Regional Account Management, Payor Account Directors, Patient Support Services, and Medical Affairs teams while maintaining appropriate compliance firewalls between reimbursement support and other field-based activities.
  • Deliver in-service education and training to office and billing staff on reimbursement processes and available patient support resources.
  • Represent uniQure professionally at assigned accounts and, as appropriate, at relevant conferences and stakeholder engagements.
  • Operate at all times within uniQure’s legal, regulatory, and compliance guidelines, without engaging in selling, pricing or contract negotiations, or guaranteeing coverage or payment.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, life sciences, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Rare disease experience is an essential requirement; gene therapy experience is strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in field reimbursement, market access, patient access, or related areas within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industry required.

  • Experience supporting complex, high-innovation specialty or provider-administered products, and working with IDNs, hospital outpatient settings, surgical settings and centers of excellence preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate complex access scenarios and translate them into clear guidance for provider accounts.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
