Overall Purpose

Our Relevance Strategy team sits at the intersection of culture and brand, decoding social trends, subcultures, and movements to connect our clients to the moments and communities that matter, and translating that intelligence into creative work that resonates at scale.

As a Vice President of Relevance Strategy, you lead senior clients and large cross-functional teams, injecting cultural intelligence into brand strategy at the highest level and building the systems that allow the agency to move at the speed of culture.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Partner across departments to design and drive cultural strategy, creative thinking, and attention planning that delivers best-in-class execution across a diverse portfolio of business.
  • Lead the development of new cultural insights, proprietary points of view, and real-time methodologies that keep brands embedded in the subcultures and movements that matter to their audiences.
  • Compose high-impact briefs that inspire integrated creative teams, and steer fast-paced brainstorms and workshops grounded in what is happening in internet culture right now.
  • Build and own senior client and external agency relationships by attending client briefings, diagnosing business needs, and understanding the cultural challenges beneath the brief
  • Own the strategic portion of the new business process from start to finish, driving pitch deliverables, workshops, and high-stakes presentations.
  • Accountable for the growth and development of direct reports from Senior Directors down to Strategists, setting clear goals, running performance conversations, and creating real opportunities for their advancement.
  • Real practitioner experience in social commerce, live shopping, creator ecosystems, marketplaces or adjacent spaces
  • Active participation in the kinds of communities that drive these businesses — trading cards, fashion, beauty, watches, coins, collectibles and other enthusiast communities
  • A genuine understanding of how these communities behave because they have participated in them, worked directly within them or built for them — not simply studied them from the outside

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • 12-20 years of experience strategically building brands at top agencies, consulting firms, or creative shops, with significant experience working for Fortune 500 clients.
  • Strong understanding of how business strategy, digital platform behavior, and cultural intelligence intersect to ground big, purposeful creative ideas.
  • Proven ability to move across quantitative and qualitative research tools and behavioral data platforms to draw out and act on insights quickly.
  • Strategic thinking ability with a balanced analytical and creative approach to integrated marketing and attention planning.
  • Proven leadership track record in developing talent, empowering teams, and maintaining high creative and strategic standards.
  • Fluent in modern communication channels, creators, and platform mechanics, and how they shape brand and content marketing in real time.
  • An understanding of how social content can create community and connection while also building pathways to commerce
  • Fluency in creators, platforms, programming, distribution and the mechanics that actually make live commerce work
  • Comfort thinking globally and understanding that community, platform and commerce behavior can vary significantly by market
  • A builder mentality — someone excited to help define the Vayner approach to this space rather than applying a traditional strategy playbook
