What's Exciting About the Role

We are looking for a Director - Tax Operations to join our global tax team and lead our U.S. domestic tax provision, tax accounting, and tax compliance processes. This position is an important leadership role both within the Verifone U.S. tax function and the broader Verifone global finance function, with close coordination alongside our international tax teams on cross-border matters affecting the U.S. footprint. 

Approximately 75% of this role is dedicated to U.S. tax operations, with the remaining 25% focused on global tax collaboration and international tax matters.

In this role, the Director – Tax Operations will interface with personnel at various levels of the company, including regional finance, business teams, and external partners. The ideal candidate must possess strong technical and analytical skills, strong organizational and communication skills (both written and oral), be detail-oriented, hands-on, and willing to roll up their sleeves.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a strategic leader across both U.S. and global tax operations, with primary responsibility for U.S. tax provision, accounting, and compliance (75%), while collaborating with international tax teams on global tax matters, cross-border transactions, and enterprise-wide tax initiatives (25%).
  • Partnering closely with the controllership and FP&A, manage both internal and external resources to prepare the U.S. portion of the interim and annual income tax provision and disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 740, including analysis of Uncertain Tax Positions, preparing appropriate reconciliations to explain changes in Effective Tax Rates, analyzing and validating deferred tax balances, and explaining period-on-period changes in all material U.S. tax accounts.
  • Managing the preparation and review of U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns with both internal resources and outside tax providers.
  • Overseeing U.S. tax implications of international operations, including GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, BEAT, and foreign tax credit calculations, in coordination with the global tax team.
  • Assisting with analysis and review of inter-company transactions affecting U.S. entities to ensure completeness and accuracy, as well as supporting the management of global transfer pricing documentation as it relates to U.S. reporting requirements.
  • Managing U.S. federal and state income tax audits, including preparing and/or reviewing responses to tax notices and information document requests (IDRs), and determining appropriate strategies for settlement and/or resolution.
  • Supporting important company and functional initiatives and projects such as transfer pricing strategy, M&A transactions, and various restructurings and legal entity rationalizations as they impact U.S. tax positions.
  • Participating in tax process optimization through greater use of technologies and AI, developing and implementing procedural changes and process improvements to enhance overall efficiency, reducing reliance on external advisers, and building in-house muscle within the U.S. tax function.
  • Performing various other responsibilities as discussed and agreed.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience with U.S. corporate income taxes, including compliance and tax accounting in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. international tax provisions (GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, BEAT, foreign tax credits) as they apply to a multinational organization.
  • Experience working within a global tax function, with exposure to EMEA and Asia-Pacific tax jurisdictions preferred. Proven ability to partner with international stakeholders on cross-border tax, compliance provision, and reporting matters in a multinational organization.
  • CPA and/or an advanced degree is a plus (MS or LLM).
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and an analytical approach to work product.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as well as independently; strong sense of ownership.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experienced with Oracle and business objects.
  • Knowledge of Alteryx or other data analytics tools is desirable.
