Mission:

Vista Del Mar provides a trauma-responsive continuum of services to empower children, youth, and families in Southern California to lead fulfilling lives.

Overall Function: The Accountant Assistant supports the Residential Analyst to ensure the budgeting, billing, accounting, analysis, and financial reporting for VDM Residential programs are accurate and family. 

Essential Job Duties (other duties may be assigned):

  • Gather Residential data (placements, FTEs, and other key metrics) from programs for documentation and analysis.
  • Monitor on-going expenditures for coding accuracy. Work with the analyst to ensure that residential expenses are accurately approved and documented by the month end deadline.Verify
  • biweekly payroll allocation reports to ensure that staff working are consistently expensed to the correct salary line and cost center. As necessary, prepare journal entries to reclass salary, payroll tax and benefit expenses. Follow up on employee changes and enter them into the Residential staffing plan.
  • Record payments received from funding entities. Assist in maintaining account receivable schedules to ensure accuracy and timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Assist in monitoring Residential cost allocations to ensure shared costs are accurately charged.
  • Assist with inputting budgeted financial/data information into our budgeting software. Document all budget assumptions along with supporting schedules.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual financial funder reports, and billing as required.
  • Assist in the routine update of internal audit schedules and during our annual year end audit.
  • Become proficient with Blackbaud Financial Edge accounting system to post entries, review general ledger activity and run queries/reports efficiently and accurately.10. Become proficient AvidXchange, Center Expense, Questica Budget and other system11.
  •  Assist in the documentation of Residential fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with governmental requirements and work accuracy and efficient
  •  Other relevant duties as assigned.

SALARY - $28 - $30 per hour

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, mathematics or related field.
  • Must have office experience
  • 3+ years’ relevant experience
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software preferred.
