Corporate Development Associate

Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a Corporate Development Associate to join our Corporate Finance Team in New York! We’re looking for someone with an interest in capital markets, financial analysis, financial technology, and strategy to join our team. You will work closely with teams across HRT to analyze business opportunities, improve processes, and also interact with external parties.

A core component of this role involves HRT Ventures, the private investment arm of HRT, which focuses on deploying long-duration capital into privately held technology & finance companies.

This is a broad, high-impact role for someone who wants to dedicate their time to venture investing while also contributing to the firm's strategic finance efforts. 

Responsibilities

Investment Execution

  • Support investment rounds, including deal structuring and negotiation of terms, in collaboration with HRT's Corporate Finance, Tax, Accounting, and Legal teams.
  • Assist in coordinating with co-investors and maintaining strong relationships across the venture ecosystem.

Portfolio Management

  • Help monitor and support portfolio companies, tracking key performance indicators and preparing regular updates for the Investment Committee.
  • Identify opportunities where portfolio companies may benefit from HRT's technical expertise, infrastructure, or industry knowledge.

Industry Expertise & Network Development

  • Perform external market research and develop sector expertise across areas such as finance, AI, software, semiconductors, developer tools, compute, and technology broadly.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technology trends and evolving competitive dynamics to support deal sourcing and diligence.

Deal Sourcing & Evaluation

  • Help manage a pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities in the technology & finance sectors
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, founders, entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture firms, and co-investors.
  • Support comprehensive due diligence on prospective investments, including market analysis, competitive landscape evaluation, technology assessment, financial modeling, valuation, and returns analysis.
  • Help develop and present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee.

Strategic Finance

  • Contribute to analysis and materials for presentations delivered to senior management.
  • Support capital modeling for regular forecast updates and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop analytical frameworks, conduct complex business analysis, and help develop compelling recommendations for both internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc strategic and operational projects for senior management.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of work experience at a top-tier investment bank, consulting firm or a similar corporate strategy role within a trading firm or tech-focused financial company, Strong interest in venture capital and investing. We deliberately welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds - whether your foundation is in finance and investing or in engineering and technology.
  • BA/BS in finance, a technical field, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical/quantitative and technical abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of financial services and capital markets is a plus.
  • Interest in or exposure to technology sectors such as AI, infrastructure, semiconductors, systems software, or developer tools a plus; technical or engineering experience is welcome but not required.
  • Familiarity with computer programming (Python, SQL) a plus.

The estimated base salary range for this position is 100,000 to 150,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
