About the Role:
Wing is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Lead to join our Manufacturing and Supply Chain team based in our Palo Alto, CA office. The ideal candidate should be able to lead a team of MFG engineers and have a passion for efficiency, demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing process development, DFM, tooling development, and the ability to deliver results as part of a dynamic, cross-functional team.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a manufacturing engineering team with diverse backgrounds in DFM, manufacturing process development, tooling design and fixture development
- Set and drive the team strategy for MFG engineering team, responsible for forecasting the headcount and budget for the team, and align with cross functional teams to set up the most effective team structure
- Develop, coach and mentor the MFG engineers to ensure they understand roles and responsibilities, provide performance feedback, develop a career roadmap and partner with them on their career aspirations
- Lead the development of standard processes and documentation for manufacturing process including process flow chart, SOP, tool and fixture requirements and specifications
- Be a collaborative partner who works with cross functional teams to drive the company level project or product development and establishes the KPI and deliverables in order to achieve functional excellence
- Provide the guidance to the team to develop and maintain the manufacturing processes for new products throughout the product life cycle, lead ODMs, CMs, and vendors to prioritize and solve problems, and drive continuous improvement through the supply chain, resulting in reduced cycle time, increased yields and improved cost.
- Provide strong engineering support in mechanical fixture designs to fast track product manufacturing to mass production, including working with contract manufacturers and vendors to prioritize and solve problems
- Expert in design for manufacturability (DFM) and influence Product Design and Electrical engineers to improve manufacturability for yield and reliability.
- Champions continuous improvement across the organization and leads activities as required
What You’ll Need:
- BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 12+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering role and takes care of the product from NPI to volume MFG stage
- 5+ years experience of leading a small to medium sized engineering team
- Strong manufacturing background in developing robust and repeatable processes to scale new products, including mechanical fixture designs, with process controls in mind in a rapid schedule
- Expert in driving engineering requirements and cost saving initiatives at vendors and contract manufacturers
- Knowledgeable in FATP process and technology, experience in drone or flight system manufacturing and experience in a fast pace production ramping environment on both NPI and sustaining phase
- Experience with injection molding, foam manufacturing processes, adhesives, carbon tube, harness and machining processes
- Ability to apply manufacturing statistics and design of experiments, able to review the end to end process and identify the cost reduction area with effective implementation plan
- Experience of SMT technology and line setup
- Understanding GD and T, tolerance stack up and design
- Excellent organizational and communication skill
