About Wing:

Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing’s fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on two continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. About the Role:

Wing is looking for a Senior Mechanical  Engineer on the Ground Infrastructure Product Development team. This role is onsite based in Palo Alto, CA.

The position seeks a highly motivated, adaptable engineer to play a critical part in scaling our ground infrastructure to support a rapidly changing operational landscape and a diversified fleet of delivery aircraft. The successful candidate is able to demonstrate a broad mechanical design, prototyping, and analysis skill set based on experience with driving products from concept, through prototyping and design, all the way to manufacturing. We’re looking for people who are intrinsically driven to solve hard problems with stunningly simple solutions, move fast, and are highly adaptive.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design mechanical / electromechanical assemblies for automated package loading, charging, storage infrastructure and other parts of our ground infrastructure roadmap.
  • Produce and iterate detailed 3D CAD models, tolerance stacks, GD&T, and manufacturing drawings to support supplier quotes, DFM reviews, and incoming inspection criteria for ground support hardware.
  • Design, build, and test quick-turn prototypes and validation fixtures to prove out new automated loading and charging concepts, defining clear release metrics (such as fatigue cycles or environmental ingress thresholds).
  • Run hand calculations and FEA structural/thermal analyses on critical assemblies.
  • Develop modular, standard ground site systems that can be rapidly, cost-effectively scaled and deployed across highly diverse geographic climates.
  • Partner with electrical, software, and operations teams to deliver seamless hardware integration.
  • Collaborate with JDM and CM partners and external organizations/teams.
  • Work with manufacturing partners to ensure parts are designed for mass production.
  • Lead projects from initial concept to completion as a technical lead.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

What You’ll Need:

  • 8+ years of professional hardware engineering experience designing, validating, and commercializing electromechanical systems, mechanisms, automated enclosures, or robotics.
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • High proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), top-level assembly integration, standard GD&T application, tolerance stack-up analysis, and producing manufacturing-ready drawing packages.
  • Ability to apply hand calculations and FEA to establish safety and reliability margins for field-critical hardware.
  • Strong foundation in DFM/DFA for metals, plastics, and sealed outdoor enclosures suitable for harsh environments.
  • Proven experience in designing test fixtures, validating hardware, analyzing field failures, and closing design loops.
  • Proven experience guiding contract manufacturers (CMs/JDMs), negotiating DFM changes, and resolving supplier quality/yield issues.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills to translate operational requirements into technical specifications and lead complex projects.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
