Actuarial Specialist
The Actuarial Specialist is responsible for creating calculator tools that ensure mathematical accuracy in policy administration and illustration systems, as well as consistency with contract language. The incumbent exercises considerable discretion and judgment working under minimal guidance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates and maintains parallel actuarial calculators as a source for an system accuracy
Serves as main point of contact for team towards the purpose of new business system validation
Reviews marketing brochures and policy page changes for accuracy.
Applies principles of finance and mathematics in providing analytical support to Product
Reviews and interprets contract language relating to policy benefit calculations
Provides calculation support of policy administration, values and benefits
Requests, tests, and approves applicable system changes assisting with IT projects
Research policy information in policy administration system to ensure consistency in calculations
Contributes to department-wide process improvement efforts, including training product team on company process improvement program tools and methodologies, identifying inefficiencies and developing and prioritizing corrective actions
Provides work direction to junior product/actuarial analysts and interns
Performs other related work as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, finance, mathematics, statistics or other related field of study
Six (6) years of progressively responsible actuarial/financial analysis or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required
Knowledge of policy values and benefit calculations for Fixed Indexed Annuities and/or Indexed-Linked Annuities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Expert/advanced level of ability in Microsoft Excel is a must.
Ability to build annuity transaction product calculator tools

Senior Accounting & Reporting Analyst (Private Asset Portfolio)
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Senior Accounting Analyst is responsible for the maintenance, accounting and reporting of private asset portfolios of American Equity Investment Life Insurance Holding Company and its' affiliates and subsidiaries.
**This position is based out of West Des Moines, IA and will work an on-site hybrid schedule**
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the accounting and reporting of private assets.
Responsible for investment accounting close activities including the preparation of journal entries, management reports and account reconciliations.
Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and maintenance of evidence of controls. Assists in the review and maintenance of control documentation and ensures all controls are completed in time.
Work closely with third-party accounting service providers to ensure accounting and reporting of investments is performed accurately and timely.
Collaborate with and provide analysis to groups across the organization and relevant stakeholders and business leaders.
Uploads and creates schedules in WINGS quarterly and annually for blue book reporting. Works with Accounting to reconcile cross check errors.
Completes certain data requests from rating agency surveys (AM Best, S&P and Fitch).
Complete and distribute quarterly STAT & GAAP Investment Disclosures.
Provide necessary information, reports and analysis for internal/external auditors and tax specialists.
Contribute to automation and continuous improvement projects.
Perform other duties and projects as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None required for this position.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in accounting, finance or related field of study; plus five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Proficiency with SAP, Blackrock Aladdin, Precision LM, eFront, WINGS, and Microsoft Excel preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:
CPA preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the investment industry, including financial data management and reporting.
Mortgage loan and private asset background valuable but not required.
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Senior Financial Reporting & Accounting Analyst - STAT
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Senior Financial Reporting & Accounting Analyst is responsible for assisting with the quarterly financial statement close process, preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, audited statutory financial statements, variance analysis and supplemental filings. The incumbent works closely with internal and external auditors on audits, participates in various actuarial and other related discussions and involved in preparation of quarterly risk-based capital calculations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with quarterly financial statement close process across the Company.
Prepares and reviews various reconciliations as part of quarterly close process.
Prepares and reviews key financial statement analysis files as part of quarterly close process.
Contributes to process improvement initiatives for financial statement close process.
Prepares and/or reviews:
Quarterly/annual statutory financial statement filings.
Audited statutory financial statements.
Variance analysis.
Supplemental filings.
Quarterly RBC computations.
Audited benefit plan financial statements.
Works directly with internal and external auditors on various reviews and audits.
Other accounting, reporting and record keeping work as needed across the Department.
Performs other related work as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year credited college or university in accounting, finance or related field of study; plus five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Prior experience and proficiency with MS Excel, and MS Access.
Experience working with annual statement software.
Experience using Workiva is desired but not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS: CPA preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the life and annuity insurance industry, including products issued, operating activities performed across the entity, and the regulatory environment.
Broad understanding of financial statement accounts of a life and annuity company, including investment and actuarial balances.
Knowledge of applicable Statutory financial reporting rules and regulations.
Ability to update financial data to adhere to new taxonomies.
Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work to meet tight quarter-end deadlines, ensuring all tasks are completed on time.
