Janitor

Specific Role:

The Janitor plays a vital role in keeping EMIT’s facility safe, clean, and welcoming. With a strong eye for detail and pride in their work, this role ensures that all workspaces—including offices, restrooms, break areas, and production zones—are sanitized, stocked, and maintained to support a healthy and productive environment.

Key Accountabilities:

Cleaning & Sanitizing Indoor Areas

• Clean and disinfect restrooms, breakrooms, and high-touch surfaces.
• Flush drains in restrooms and breakrooms as needed.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors across offices, hallways, and shared spaces.
• Dust and wipe down furniture, counters, fixtures, and equipment.

Waste Management

• Empty and clean trash and recycling bins regularly.
• Transport waste to proper disposal or recycling areas.
• Ensure all bins are relined and ready for use.

Supply Stocking & Equipment Care

• Restock soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other consumables.
• Maintain and clean janitorial equipment.
• Monitor inventory levels and request resupplies before running low.

Safety & Maintenance Awareness

• Identify and report maintenance needs or safety concerns (e.g., leaks, trip hazards, broken fixtures).
• Support internal safety and cleanliness standards.
• Use appropriate signage during cleaning activities (e.g., wet floor signs).

Light Outdoor Upkeep

• Perform seasonal outdoor tasks such as snow removal, de-icing, sweeping entryways, and leaf cleanup.
• Maintain neat, hazard-free entryways and walkways.
• Collect debris from parking lots and keep outdoor seating areas clean.

Qualifications:

• Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred, but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean environment.
• Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
• Willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks in varying conditions.

Physical & Safety Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable standing, walking, and moving for the duration of a shift.
• Always use proper PPE when required.
• Follow safety protocols when using tools and handling cleaning materials.
